4000 ford clutch will not release

clutch will not release we do not know if it has the right clutch it has single clutch some tells me it must have double clutch it is three cyl diesel with a ehght speed when i bolt on the pressure plate as i tighten it it pulls the pressure plate arms in toward the clutch disk so there are no room for depressing and releasing the clutch it acts likes the pressure plate needs shims but ford tells me no

did you put the clutch disc in the right way.Sounds like its facing the wrong way leaving no room to bolt up

it will only fit one way you can not put this one in wrong

Hi Dave. I'm not famiiar, with your tractor. On some tractors, with a single clutch disk, the fly wheel is steped. The pressure plate bolts to the outer ring, and the clutch disk sits in the recess. If this is what you have, the distance from the surface of the recess to the face has to be machined to a specified depth.

What year is the tractor. I'm assuming since it's a 3 cyl with and 8 speed that makes if built after 1965.
