jcmseven you bring up an interesting point about power, this last few weeks I have been clearing out some stumps and digging some trenches with my 110tlb. I find that most of the time I am running about 1300 to 1700 rpm and that this has been sufficient power from a 43 hp machine that weighs about 8000 lbs with cab. I have thought that a 4320 cab with 48 hp would weigh in at 6000 lbs or so with implement should also do he trick. When I used to farm years ago I needed a lot more power, now doing finish work and landscaping work not so much. For the most part I use a tractor like my boat as a release outlet, so I am not in a hurry.

I will be checking with the dealer today and see what happens, I am only interested in moving up if the price is right. If not I will use what I have.

Thanks for all the input guys,

Steve

I just ordered a new 4520 with cab last week and got about 15% below list price for the package. I didn't get a loader or any implements but got a lot of options. I was very happy with the price - I've seen used 4520's and 4720's selling for more than what I paid with similar options.

It should be delivered around the first week of March.

I think this will be more than enough power for me, going from an old Farmall 504 (46 PTO hp).

Steve,

John Deere charges a premium to move into the 4520 or 4720. I would have to say my neighbor, who runs a 4320, has never had an issue with the power of his machine. My 4520 was a hoss, I miss it every day. It was the single best tractor I have ever owned, but unfortunately was not very practical for what I really needed. Both these were open station machines, but I cannot imagine that they would not work just fine in cab configuration. The key in the 4000 series, as I mentioned, is the torque. My 3720, which was a powerful machine, had 84 lb ft. of torque at rated speed, where the 4520 had well over 100 pound ft. It also had it down low in the RPM range and pulled like a mule. Despite there being an 8 hp difference between the two, the 4520 felt 50% more powerful and climbed my steep long grades with great ease. The 4720 I used was a rental from the local dealer and had been used hard; it felt the same. All the 4000 series machines, save the 4120 I believe, offer more than 100 lb. ft. of torque at rated speed, and more than that at peak torque. That is what one feels, and it is apparent even in the 4120. Personally, unless one is running a high demand PTO implement all the time, or just wants the most powerful compact on the block, going 4320 or 4520 is plenty--and then some.

I am looking into a 4520 cab now new 2008 for $28,400 base, and a 4720 cab with 400cx loader and weights with 82 hrs 2007 for $29,500. Both have R4 tires included in prices. From what I can tell online the add on accessories will cost about $3000 to $3500. Depends on how much weight is on the tractors.

If I buy out of state I would either have to go get it or pay shipping and it seems that if they ship it to me the savings in sales tax would cover the shipping costs. Any holes in this theory anyone?

John,

Locally I have only found two machines a 4720 about 250 miles away and a 4320 about 90 miles away. I am going to make a follow up call about the latter machine. Right now though I am looking for a good deal on any of the three 4x20 cab tractors and I agree that all of them should have enough power for my uses.

I am still waiting to see if either Deere dealership will come to the table with the right price, we are several thousand apart right now.:(
