Comparison 4005 vs 4120

As I never owned plastic fenders, I would not know if they would hold up for a sapling that gets caught between the tire and fender and come rotating around. I know its strong enough of a force to ripple the metal fenders. I would say you're more "hooped" if the plastic is not and breaks off than if my metal fender bends. The proof is in the pudding. I showed you my tractor and where it lives most of the time. I don't have the plastic to compare and I'm not sure I'd want to.

Thanks for all your replys. Seems both tractors have their advantages.
I think the next step would be to drive both and see which feels right.

Now that's proof and what's good about it is that it brings into focus what are wive's tales vs. "proof of the pudding" ( Where'd they get that phrase and why did anyone need proof that there was pudding?)

As an owner of a new 4105 I can only tell you it is a great little machine. As with any purchase in life, the best decision is made when you buy for your needs and intended purposes over opinions of others and how they use it.

I can tell you the plastic is very durable. I have no worries about it long term. And AKfish only confirms in pics above.

Hydro is a great transmission and worth the money. To control speed and such with just one pedal without clutch or throttle adjustment is just something you have to use to understand.

I'm know the 20 series tractors are great but I really question the pricing. You are looking at 20-25% increase from 4105 to 4120. Obviously, many can justify it but I couldn't. Again, for my needs and intended purposes. I needed a simple tractor in that size with hydro trans..... not the bells and whistles of the 20 series (I know it is more than just bells and whistles but not much more).

My needs - smaller tractor for basic chores on the ranch (move round bales, some basic grading, some disc/cultivate in smaller areas for field renovation). I will look for the bells and whistles on the bigger tractor where more useful to me :thumbsup:

Well said... I agree - especially with your observation about the "premium" that the 40x20 machines command!

It's really out of whack with the prices of competing models! Especially when you begin to compare the $$/Hp and for less money per Hp you can move right on up into the 5000e series of cab tractors at the 4720 price point.

Of course, maybe that's the point... the bean counters at JD have figured if they just push the cost another inch or so - well, they pushed me right into a 5075M!!

Getting off track here on the OP's thread but the last post struck a cord.

What is really missing in the Deere line-up is an "economy" cab model in the 3000-4000 series - IMO.

Something on the order of the Kubota B3000 cab tractor.

Say a JD3032e with a cab and/or the JD4105 with a cab. Cheaper than the current line-up of 3000-4000 "premium" cab tractors.

I find all of there series is like that, to keep you "rolling into the next series"

The 1026R is priced high enough that for just a little more, you can step into a 2320 machine. From there, if you want the power, you need a 2720, but you can get a 3320 machine for almost the same money. If you want the power, you can purchase a 3720, for almost the same money as a 4120.

At the end of every series is the price point where it's just a stone's throw into the next, bigger category.

I sure wished you worked for JD because that is exactly what I was wanting. But for the price of 4020 series and cab I might as well start looking at 5e models that can do a whole lot more with twice the power.

BTW, I live in TX so AC is not considered a "bells and whistles".... it's almost mandatory. I'm sure just as heat is for you
