400X FEL vs. 400CX

Our local JD dealer has given me a 4120 to try on my property. It has a 400CX FEL and a 448 BH. The price quote the dealer gave me includes a 400X FEL.

What is the difference between the two?

The CX is self leveling and has more lift capacity.

A local dealer just quoted me the following:

400X Loader $3,878
400CX Loader $4,312

Is $500 worth the cost difference? Let us know how you like it.

BTW, the dealer said he has not sold any CX loaders. (and the way he acted with me, I'm surprised he has sold anything).

CX!!! In heartbeat... I would have one! If they made a Self-Leveling version of the 300cx I would have got it.... Ask yourself this, "what's $500.00, on a machine this expensive... do it right, don't cheap out...

For $500, I would definitely go with the 400CX unless you have something against the self-leveling feature and increased lift capacity. If you plan to use forks or bale spears, then the self-leveling feature on the 400CX is a must have.

The FIL's new tractor coming will have the self-leveling loader. One run-in with a load of shingles with the 400x on the 4710 was all he needed to stear him toward the CX on the new 20 series.

I got the 400x with my 4320 because the dealer told me the 400CX wasn't available at the time. I regret not having the extra lift capacity as I can easily max out the X. Spend the extra money; you will not regret it.

My 420 loader on my old 4300 JD would out lift my new 400X. I didn't do my homework when I purchased my 400X. My dumb dealer said the only difference between the 400X and 400CX was that the 400CX was sef leveling. He said they wld both lift and perform the same. I noticed right off that the 400X was weak especially when I installed a tooth bar which added extra weight. Don't be stupid like I was. Do your homework and get the 400CX so you'll have better lifting ability.
