4010 Question

I think if you stick the bucket, that the hydraulics just go into bypass. Simple solution is to just back up a tad.

You can get to the limits of any tractor you buy. I'm happy with the 4010 and am more happy to live with its small fuel consumption, only 0.45 gallon/hr. I suspect that you can get more hp for the same fuel consumption in the newer 2320 and 2520 models. The 4110 have separate hydraulic pumps for the power steering and the lift system. Check out the 2320 and 2520 regarding this aspect. The 4010 is an awesome machine for its size. The old JD M had the same hp but was a monstrous tractor.

One other thing I'd like is position control on the 3ph. Think this is available on either one or both of the 2320 and 2520 models. Think the main difference on the 2520 vs. 2320 is direct injection on the 2520.

I only mow 2 acres but I have been disappointed in the mowing quality with the 54" deck. I do a lot more bucket work that I anticipated.

I would also like a litte more weight so I can take full advantage of the bucket capabilities. Even with all the problems, it is hard to keep the wheels on the ground when working. I've never known more power to be a bad thing.

Two things make sure the mower is leveled correctly (you might want the dealer to show you) and make sure you have enough ballast in the rear of the tractor.

As for the cut quality - the 54" on that machine offers an excellent cut...my neighbor has one and it does an excellent job. I would be checking the blades and debris underneath the deck as well.

Ralph,

Is this some kind of mea culpa? Should the TBN historians be recording this moment? Should the OP be looking for a 2210? Sorry, I couldn't resist! :) (BTW, I do consider the 4010 to be one heck of a tractor). As for the OP's description of his problems, and since this is a new occurance, something has to have changed: I would be looking at the filters as posted above, as well as the fuel (could it have gelled?), and then make sure the injector pump is working well.

Hi,
I've got a 4010 also. This fall I noticed it lugging a bit where it never had before. I'd beeing doing a bit of dusty work so checked the air filter and found it pretty packed with dust etc. I changed it out and problem solved. Seems it needs air to run right. Go figure.

So maybe this is something to check.

Good Luck,
HD

It is impossible to burn up a hydro trans in under 1500hrs even if you try hard! It sounds like you checked the fuel filter how does the air filter look?? You could try a different brand of fuel!

is your air cleaner plugged? That could be another possibility. Mt 4110 has a restriction indicator, check that also.

Wow, lots of great replies and info while I was away in Raleigh. I will do the filter thing, both air and fuel, to see if that helps. Probably change the oil also. I never had good luck with this machine mowing from day one. The loader work has usually been above and beyond what one should expect from a tractor of this size and horsepower. The hill pulling problem is something new. I used on-road diesel until about 8 months ago. I switch to the off-road to get the price break. By the second 5-gallon can, I was noticing a difference. At first, it would just smoke more when under strain. It would belch black smoke doing things that it never hesitiated doing before. About two months ago, I switched back to on-road but the problems seemed to keep getting worse and here I am now looking for help from you folks with the knowledge. I plan to do the filter thing this weekend and if that fails, its off to the dealer. The snow will be flying all too soon and I want my little baby to be ready to push the white stuff off of my 800' long driveway.

Once again, thanks for all the help and advice. This place is an awesome resource.
