4020 frame rails?

my 2 cents

4020 tractors esp with loaders saw a fair amount of frame rail replacement this is not uncommon. Usually it was from lack of not checking the bolts from time to time and they got loose and damaged the rails. Definatelly go with aftermarket rails for the price but like the others said use JD hdwe to go back together. There are 2 different lengths available in the std size bolt. Std bolt is p/n R31505 5/8 x 1 5/8. Longer bolt (not in parts catalog) p/n r47953 is just over 2" long with about 1/2 extra threads. If needing to go larger the oversized bolt is p/n r73383 and is a 3/4 by almost 2" long bolt. There also used to be a repair kit (sleeve assy type unit). But that p/n is escaping me at the moment I think it brought you back to 5/8. Good luck

Thanks ctlguy for the info on the bolts. I talked to a tractor scrap yard Tuesday. Aftermarket frame rails- 323.00 each, he recommended JD bolts.
I'll try and get pics, I'm old skool on camera technology

Absolutely the frames can be replaced. It is a relatively simple job. I would recommend new bolts also since they are probably stressed. The bolts are special tapered seat bolts, so don't try to use standard bolts. If you can get a pair of rails for $600.00, that is a great deal. New ones from deere are $550.00 each. I agree with Steve, if it is a diesel in good shape, over $10,000 is a realistic value. Is it Powershift? New style(side console) or old style(hydraulic controls on dash)? Post some pics if you can!

Its must be old style, 3 levers on left of steering wheel and gear shift on right side.

Are the power shift models more valuable? Just restored my grandfathers powershift turbo 4520 in Wolcott, IN a year ago. NICE unit, and FAST!!
