4020 gas John Deere won't fire.

I'm 64, but new to the large tractors.
Have 4020 that won't fire.
Was idling, and stopped. When tried to start it after, if fired twice, but wouldn't catch. Now doesn't fire at all.
Added heat to the gas, and disconnected the gas to the carburetor, thinking if it was flooded this would clear it.
Still did not fire.
Any suggestions?

Large tractors are pretty much like old cars. Do you have spark from the coil? How about from the distributor to the plugs? Do you have fuel flow to the carburetor? Does fuel pass through the carburetor to the engine?

check your plugs, if they are wet, they are getting fuel, but you are not getting spark. it's possible you just have bad gas that won't ignite though..

It's sitting in the five inches of snow that fell last night. I live in southern Minnesota.
I'm clearing CRP land so it can be planted. Of course it stalled as far from the road as possible.
Brought in a mechanic. Changed the rotter, wasn't getting a spark to the plugs.
That didn't do it, but he will be working on it now. Not something I can do.
After changing out the rotter, it is now getting a spark. So on to the next step.

I'm a fair hand on old tractors but a sorry mechanic standing next to it can tell more about your tractor than I can being this far away. This much I can tell you,a 4020 is as fine a tractor ever built.
