Buying Advice 4066R

Herb, any news to report?
don't want to hog up your thread...

that is too much for a compact utility tractor when you can get larger AG-utility tractor from the same company for noticeably less.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I priced a fully loaded MF 4708 yesterday and will do the same with JD next week, to compare what a fully loaded HD utility tractor would cost, with similar features. Nobody but the JD 4066R has an inching feature, so that's off the comparison table for utility tractors. So then it's rear fender controls, power shuttle ease, lift capacity and seat comfort. MF's extendable rear arms were different than Kubota's but looked fine. 75 grand tractor for 61. Radial R1's, huge rear axle, big tractor.

So....at least as far as Massey is concerned the bump to serious utility tractor, one that is literally twice the size and weight of the 4 series JD, is about ten grand more. The MF 4088 is their "world" model, Finnish Sisu engine built in a brand new high tech Agco factory in China.
So yes, an awful lot more tractor for ten grand more. With a moonroof and buddy seat. Will be my last tractor, going to spec a nice ride. Not necessarily the most sensible...what would you do if your health was going and you had one last tractor to buy? I sold my boat and rv. All of us have our own context for buying.

I'll report back next week on what a comparable JD will cost. The real issue is whether JD will discount. First out offer from MF was a strong 19 percent off. Particularly from a dealer that knew he needed to give me a good price on my trade in Kubota.

I really didn't want to spend more than fifty on this so I'm beginning to start the gulping process. I may be better with a 4066R and a big rototiller. At least that's my fallback. I will also look at JD cab 5 E series if they have one and not dismiss it so fast. But it has to have electronic clutching, MF has a pushbutton on the joystick so no leg clutching at all. OK JD, what do you have? and for how much more...

Serious business here, would require a change in avatars! :D

JD quote? It been more than a week

I can't afford a new anything but the GREEN TAX would be hard to swallow.

If I was shopping for a new cabbed CUT I would probably be 150 miles away at the TYM dealer.

A loaded 4066R was 51, loaded MF 4707 with glass roof and buddy seat was 52. I bought the Massey last week.
Almost double the weight and air ride seat just made me go aaahhh.
Bottom line was the comparably equipped JD was 20 grand more because I had to go up to a 5R to get comparable features.
Had to decide what was nice and what was critical. I needed the glass roof and really wanted the buddy seat more than I had to have the inching
feature on the same size tractor I have now.

So I went large, since the first time I knew I had gone too small. If I had bought an M Kubota the first time, probably would not be going anywhere. But the new Massey design for the cab is first class, and I can actually afford a tractor
with a buddy seat and a glass roof, which I need for aerial man bucket use.

I thanked the JD sales guy for doing an excellent job representing JD, and put a little green in his wallet. He put a lot of time into this and
was very professional. But for 50 grand, and I admit I did not look at New Holland, I prioritized on weight and ease of use transmission. Having an electronic power shuttle with a push button on the shifter was something I don't think the JD 4066R offered. Though JD is unique I believe in offering a power shuttle on a compact tractor.

None of the brands other than the top four are local in my area, very traditional ag dealers. No LS, no Kioti, no Branson.
Thank goodness I really like the local MF dealership, small one with an owner who still farms himself.
He was the little guy option and that's what I went with.
JD experience was excellent, however. They do nice paperwork...
But when I saw what I could get for 700 bucks more, I couldn't justify the cost of the loaded compact tractor.

One tractor is built in China, one is built in Georgia.
That's what made the bigger Massey affordable to me, not that it was better than JD.
Parts of JD I know are Yanmar,
just like my JDX750 garden tractor, which is an outstanding piece of equipment. So I knew
the 4066R was top quality, that was never the issue. It was value.

A nice loaded JD utility tractor is just out of my range for a fun tractor I'm not using to earn a living with.
I grow vegetables for the local food bank in retirement.
Same gag level I have with new truck pricing.
At least a nice tractor holds its value pretty well.

hope this helps.

The buddy seat alone is priceless 20181026_113616.jpeg

I have a 2005 4520 with a Curtis Cab....the cabs are knd of crude, but it keeps me dry and warm...

I've looked at the 4066...too much money for me, but I do like 'em...and, if I had the money, I'd consider one. The one thing I don't like (besides the price) is you can only get eHydro. I'm a gear guy and I'd much prefer a power-reverser

How did you mount the buddy seat? I have a 4720 with at factory cab and would love to have one of those seat's for my little guy!

What kept me from buying the Kubota is I'm an American and don't get caught up in that Japanese trap stuff, or at the very least my bias favors American companies.......

.....The 5E's parts are made in India and put together at the JD plant in Grovetown, (Augusta) GA.

For my part, I壇 take the Japanese company that builds their tractors either in Japan or the USA vs the American company that builds their tractor in India, and resells it to the US after some assembly here. Shame on JD for taking away possible US manufacturing jobs in the name of cheap labor.

yes but...they can't make a 5E for anywhere near its current price by building it here. I owned an Indian made Massey Ferguson. Bullet proof, but all manual and too hard for me to use with bad arthritis. But tractor was old design, kinks worked out decades ago. Super shiny red Massey paint though...they do good paint in India, at least it didn't fade like my Kubota's did.

I bought a 75hp Massey built in new Agco factory in China, now also being built in Brazil. Comparable JD was almost $25k more, huge difference.
So if money is no object, you bet, buy the JD. Just remember that 4066R is a Yanmar built in Japan, assembled here. Most of the Yanmar products are excellent in my mind, my JD X750 with a Yanmar diesel is a superior garden tractor.
Hard to find a genuine made in USA product in this market until you get to larger ag tractors.

I値l definitely admit the Kubota paint fades to pink far too early...

Unfortunately if you say making the 5E in the US is too costly, how do you expect people to buy them if we can稚 afford to pay them to make them?

35 right now...high in the low 60's today...
Looks like some helacious rain moving in tonight...prediction is for 1.25 inches

You aren't very far from me...I'm across the river in the Lebanon / upper valley area.

My truck said 29F on my way to work. WMUR says 2+ inches of rain are possible, along with high winds.

I have owned both a JD4066R and a JD5085E. The smaller 66R had a cab while the larger 85E was an open station. There is no doubt that the 85E has much more power and can do more "farm work," but the 66R is much easier to use. The hydro is the way to go as opposed to a foot clutch. You are quite correct that it is way easier to deal on the 85E than the 66R, though I don't really know why. BTW, my 5085E was US-made unlike the lower powered 5E's, although I think all 5E's are now made in India. I have less than 30 acres to work and no animals (if you don't count ducks, dogs and bees that is) so that's another reason for a smaller traction. I do feel the 66R has more than enough power for all my needs. If I were to buy again, it would be a JD 4066R open station
