I stand corrected, I think. I've been a gearhead all my life and never heard of a 409 in a truck. Could it be like the 427's in the trucks, tall deck, not the same as in the cars.

It amazes me what they sell for on Ebay. I like Road Runners; they are going for some steep prices. I prefer Mopars over most others, but have always really liked the '66 Chevelle SS396. My Uncle had one; the high horsepoer 396 with 4spd. That car was really something. When I was a kid, my parents had a '63 Impala SS 327 4 speed with console, buckets etc. For a large car, that thing would fly! I could just image what the car would have been like with a 409!
Interesting thing about prices though. Superbirds and Daytona's carry big price tags, but the Talladega's that challenged them, the only one I have seen for sale was really clean, low miles but was only about $30k.
The other intersting thing, is how for so many Chevies out there, they were no-shows in Nascar and USAC in the mid 60's to very early 70's. Mopar and Ford just blew them clean off the tracks. Chevy didn't become a player in Nascar until rule changes basically took away the winged cars and the Talladegas. There were lots of Road Runners, Chargers, Torino's and such running, but never hear of Chevelles or Impala's on the big speedways till after the Hemi was out of the picture. Even with the 427's, Chevy was not in the hunt, factory sponsored or privateer. nothing could compete withe Hemi until restrictions were place on it, then Ford was able to dice it up with them.
