4100 and 6' finish mower?

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

In the Kubota and New Holland lines, the B2410 and TC25 are compatible with 72" rear finish mowers.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Sounds to me like a misprint; got the 60" and 72" models reversed, but of course, I'm only guessing.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

I think they must have meant it, I checked my 2000 brochure, the 2001 brochure and the specs on the net (link in the last message). All of them had it the same.

Is there something about the JD 72" rear mount mover that maybe makes it special in some way? Lighter than average? Light duty cutting only?

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

I suppose those are all possibilities, Jon; just the first time I can recall hearing of anyone approving a bigger 3-point mower than a belly mower.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

The Kubota B2410 is compatible with the 72" rear but only a 60" mid. I suspect the issue with a 72" mid mount is that its sheer physical size prevents it from fitting within the wheelbase of a smaller frame tractor such as a 4100 and a 2410.

You mean Deere ain't the only one to do that?/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I guess I haven't kept up too well, but you've come up with another logical possibility.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Wow! You folks are great. Thanks for all of the comments. I test drove a B2710 and TC25 today, and will try a 4200 tomorow. I've ruled out the 4100 even tho JD says you can connect a 6' 3PH finish mower. Everyone I've asked says it is a bad idea because of the 16 PTO HP.
Thanks,
Jeff in NY.
PS. If anyone has a (slightly) used 4200 w/FEL they want to sell, let me know asap.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

jpb6,

You haven't mentioned what else you'd like to do with your tractor, or what sort lawn you have. People have mentioned the B2410 and I will too. If you have many lawn 'obstacles', if you want to be kind to your turf, and if mowing is your first goal, then lighter and smaller is better. The B2410 is the smallest tractor rated to pull a 6' finish mower (other than the 4100, and it seems like that is in question).

Just wanted to point out that the machines you have test driven could be bigger and heavier than you need. The 4200 is supposedly about 1000 lb heavier than a 4100, for example. For loader work and just about everything else, heavier is better, but not for finish mowing in my opinion.

Good luck.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Wheeldog,
I mow about 2 acres, and plow a 900' gravel driveway. The lawn is 2/3 open reclamed field and 1/3 "real" grass seed with plenty of trees and obsticles. I am replacing a Massey Ferguson 1963 MF35D w/MF100 FEL. It is an old heavy 2wd workhorse.
I drove a 4200 this morning and am very close to taking it home as I have a buyer for the Massey waiting in the wings for me to make up my mind. I liked it and the dealer a lot, but your comments and my experience test driving the B2710 have me second guessing. My gut tells me to live with the extra weight on the lawn for the improved FEL and plowing performance. Any other opinions?
