4110 - How to Connect Wiring to Non-Mahindra Alternator for Tachometer

Hello. I purchased a used 2002 Mahindra 4110 tractor but someone has put a non-Mahindra alternator on the motor. Charging works fine but the alternator shows no attachment point for the wire that feeds the tachometer on the tractor. Has anyone or can one work out a wiring solution to make the alternator feed the wire that shows the tachometer? Thank you in advance!

No way to tell from out here just what alternator you have. Typically an electronic, alternator driven tach works off a circuit supplying a certain range of AC voltage. Not all alternators are (or can be) set up to do that.

To begin with, you would need to know what the original 4110 alternator was capable of in that regard, meaning what AC voltage range it supplied. Then you need to find out if your current unit can be configured to provide that. An alternator repair shop technician MIGHT be able to tell you that based on the details of your unit. My guess is you're stuck with what you have unless you find the right alternator.

Merrill, did you ever work out the problem, I have the same problem with my 2008 Mahindra 2525.

Thanks for the question. I did not work out the problem. I found an alternator that was supposed to fit my Mahindra on Amazon, ordered 2 of them, and they both failed within 3 minutes of initially running, the first one making the tachometer run for a minute before failing.

I have found Jensales has an alternator that is supposed to work but I am not prepared to spend almost $200 for the alternator. At the current time, my alternator is charging the battery correctly; it has no feed to the tach/speedo gauge! Mahindra says the replacement alternator is $850! Don't think so!
