The owners manual for my JD 4110 only mentions glow plugs once, containing very little information.
My question is - does my 2004 - 4110 have glow plugs and what is the best way to use them? Since there is no indicator light.
Thanks

Refer to the thread concerning 2210 smokes on startup. There was a good discussion on cold starting on the 2210, and I believe it should be similar to the 4110 also.

The 4110 should be the same as the 2210. I knew it had them because of the schematics on JDParts. The dealer said Deere never even told the dealership how the Glow Plugs are activated. They had to figure it out themselves (not in the manual). /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You have to move your shift lever into high or low range, then turn the key to start (it cant' start but the glow plugs glow). Hold the key there for 20-30 seconds, and let it warm up. Then shift back into neutral, and start the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was told to cycle the plugs in that manner for only 5 seconds, or so. When cold, the advice was to do two or three cycles of 5 seconds before engaging the starter.

I agree with Pete's method..otherwise burnout can happen when on too long...

Thanks guys
I will try these procedures the next cold start. I have noticed it takes a little longer to start as the weather gets colder.
I wanted to make sure I was using the glow plugs correctly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
