4115 power steering leak

I just notice where fluid leaked on the mower deck after my wife mowed last week. All I could see is fluid on the power steering hoses apparently coming from the top where the steering colume is housed. Not having time right now to take the plastic cover off what are the hoses leading to and how hard is removing the plastic cover. Any ideas what could cause a leak now the tractor is a 2005 4115. Any help or ideas are welcomed. As always thanks again. Larry

The hoses go to the steering (orbital) valve, #19. I have never removed the cover on my on 4110 (same as your 4115) so I cannot advise there...

As to what caused the leak? No guesses at this point-not enough info.

I have the 4110/4115 tech manual and this is what it directs you to do. Hope this helps. -Jeff

Control Panel Removal and Installation
1. Remove steering wheel.
2. Remove four screws and lift off the control panel.
3. Disconnect two wiring harness connectors.
4. Disconnect tachometer cable.
5. Disconnect PTO switch electrical connector.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Control Panel Lower Shroud Removal and
Installation
Removal:
1. Remove control panel.
2. Remove cap crews from RH and LH side edges of
shroud.
3. Lift control panel and tilt top of shroud towards seat until
park brake connecting rod and speed control lock are
accessible.
4. Remove spring clips and washers from park brake
connecting rod and speed control lock rod and disconnect
rods from handles.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from key switch.
6. Remove shroud.
Installation:
Installation is the reverse of removal.

power steering leak on compact JD

I have a 4115 JD which is simular to a 2520 compact tractor. I noticed fluid leaking on the mower deck and also saw fluid on the hoses going to the power steering pump. I took off the pastic panel surrounding the sterring column and saw where the leak is coming from. There are two tubes coming from the pump and two hoses coming from the pump. The leak is coming from the bottom tube which is very hard to get to. I quess I have to remove all of the tubes and hoses to get to this tube. I don't know what kind of fitting is on the solid tube. Should I just try to tighten the fitting or unscrew it and see what the problem is. I don't know at this point if there is an o-ring or not. The tractor in five years old without any leaks so far. Any help or useful information would be helpful. Thanks Larry

Thanks for the useful information I figured it out. Now if I can only figure out how to get to the bottom tube leading into the power steering pump. The leak is in the fitting and I hope it just needs to be tighten. Larry

The more the better I quess. Since the first post was before I got the plastic panel off and now that I have found the leak I figured the hydraulic section would be the place to go. I assume that since you never had the plastic panel off you never had to deal with the power steering pump. Do you have any knowledge about the tubing JD uses and the connectors that lead into the power steering pump? I quess not many people have had this problem with the lack of replys even though I did not give or have much information to offer. Thanks Larry

The more the better I quess.

The problem with this way of thinking is that any information (like the diagrams I posted, and the instructions for dash removal) are spread acrossed multiple post's. So other people don't know whats been suggested or offer advise that already been suggested-or they don't know any updates from you. Keeping everything together is best for you and others that are trying to help you.

Now, the hardlines should have ORB (O-Ring Boss) fittings on the ends, so yes there is a O-ring and it's possible it's just loose, or the O-ring is bad.
