Hi, this is my first post. I have been reading the forum for some time now and have to say that the amount of information is tremendous.

We bought a house 2 years ago with 9 acres. The 3 acres around the house is level and wooded. The remaining land is sloping woods with some level areas as you work down the slope. The intended uses for the tractor are as follows, haul cut logs up the slope, dig stumps, trenching for some electrical/water lines to various parts of the property, etc...

We looked at a 4115 that seems big enough while still able to navigate the woods with care. We are looking at a tractor (w/ R4s) on the dealer's lot with a loader and backhoe. Only the loader is not on-site. Does the following price look reasonable? (we are in northern Connecticut)

Phil,

I think the 4115 is a nice tractor, but I feel it's priced too high against the next step, 4210. If you just go to the Deere website, you will see that list on the two machines favor the 4210, realizing that all the goodies are not included additional control values, etc., on the 4210, but it's a real nice machine and good seller for Deere. If that is the size tractor you want, and don't like the physical size of the 4210, then you might consider the 790, similar size, but tons of power.

What dealer is that? You might want to try FVE in Farmington. They've done really well by me over the years. But I agree with JD2210 that unless size is paramount, the next frame size might offer more, although I have heard some rumblings about the 4210 being underpowered. How about a 4310? See we all will have you talked into a 4720 before long! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There are a some things not listed in your quote that are included. This is why your list and quote are so close together.

For example:
You need a power beyond kit for the BH.
You need the tall folding ROPS for the BH.
I think there's something else I can't remember.

If you look up the list price, you need to include everything that's on the tractor. I think overall the price is pretty good. I'm not clear on why the BH is higher than list -- although it is a bit of installation work. They may be putting the price of the above items in the BH part of the quote.

When you pick up the tractor, make sure to get the 3pt arms for when you're not using the BH.

Depends on your needs and priorities. I had thought about getting a 4115 for all the lighter work and eventually a (used)full-sized ag tractor for the heavy stuff - but finally elected to split the difference with a large frame CUT.

The 4115 is a very nice but light tractor that is priced close to the 4210 (if there are any of the latter still available - it's a discontinued model) but I see the two as serving different purposes.

One of the most important distinctions between the 4115 and 4210 is the weight. The 4210 is nearly 1000 lbs heavier - and is much more likely to damage your lawn if the ground is soft - where the 4115 should tread much more lightly.

On the other hand, the 4210 (and at that point you might as well go 4310) is a considerably heavier duty, stronger tractor. Different strokes for different folks.

You should expect at least a 15% overall discount from list (but as was mentioned above, to be fair make sure to include
all the small stuff needed). Plus Deere has a multi-implement rebate right now (your loader and hoe should count) good for a couple hundred more dollars.

The 4115 is the machine I wish I would have got. Some day I hope to trade up to a 4115. I do not agree with going up to a 4210. I just don't like the mid size frames and you can go "one up" to infinity. I also do not like the ehydro so I prefer the 4115 over the 4210. The only suggestion I would make is get some bids to have a contractor do the back hoe work. Here $1000 buys a lot of work so it's very hard to justify a BH for home use at nearly 7k with taxes. The other prices are better than the quotes I got on a 4115 with FEL two years ago ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would have to agree with Dave. If you are looking at a lot of stumps you will save a lot of wear and tear on the tractor and could buy so many other fun implements. If you get the right equipment in there you could do in hours what may take you months to do.

Btw, I too would love to have a BH..

As mentioned, the 4210 is larger and in part for my suggestion of looking up aside from price is the fact you only mention real work items, i.e., loader and backhoe and I suspect you would really enjoy have a larger frame machine if your going to get nasty with a backhoe.

Hello,

Just wondering what size of bucket are you getting with your BH? I'm also shopping right now and the 9" is what comes with the 46 BH but you can get a 13", 16", 20" or 24" for additional money... 9" seems to be a bit narrow for my taste... I'm planning to use the BH mostly to dig out tree stumps.
