Thanks for the ideas. Sorry for the late reply...long busy week and weekend.
Probably too late for any finger prints. I've smeared the cap and so has the dealer and mechanic and the local police have some more pressing issues right now. Anyway, it was probably just my complete brainfade, not vandalism....just can't believe I missed three strong cues and did it myself but can't dismiss the possibility. I'll be sure triple check the fuel and take some further preventative measures, re: neighbor (actually now ex-neighbor...moved out and hopefully the end of the issues).
