Hi, I have been lurking off and on and just bought a 4120. I am going to add the 7Iron if I can figure out how the deck is raised and lowered. The sales guy said it was via the 3pt. Does that mean that the 3 pt DOES travel up and down with the deck or that it DOESN'T work with the mower deck?

Thanks,

Scott

I thought the large frame series tractors had their own hyd cyl to raise and lower the MMM. That only the smaller frame tractors used the 3pt system to raise the MMM.

Not sure how your salesman mixed this up, or if in fact the new line is different. I understand that a 3rd SCV is needed in addition to the dual SCV (for FEL) to operate the MMM independent of the 3pt system.

Thanks, I still don't understand it. I called again today and talked with the sales manager and he did not know how it worked. If someone has the 7Iron and 4000 twenty series, please let me know.

They are mixed up, as beenthere said, a cylinder does the adjusting and a lever is added to the right of the seat. This allows full use of the mower with the loader and backhoe installed, even if there may be a wee mark or two left by that beast... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Mike, I guess that makes sense. I will find out for sure tomorrow. I am going to talk with the mechanic at the shop. Surely they will know.

Rebel,
I have a 4200 and the 60" 7 Iron. The 7 iron comes with a lift cylinder that attaches to the left side of the tractor frame, the rod attaches to the lift arm bracket. The hoses are then routed through the rear of the tractor where they are attached to the spool for the third Spool Control Valve (SCV) which has been noted as having the control lever on top of the right fender. A third SCV and a mid PTO are necessary prerequisites for installing a 7 Iron on a mid frame tractor. Just for reference, on my 4200 in 2001 the mid PTO cost $300 and the third SCV cost $220.

The 4120 does in fact use the rear rockshaft to lift the midmount mower. The large chassis tractors do not use a cylinder like the mid chassis tractors. It has been a while since I have seen this system, so I don't remember the details. Some kind of bracket bolts on near the lower pivot point of the lower 3 pt arms. One end of a lever mechanism rests on top of the lower arms and when the arms are raise the lever pivots and pulls up the mower.

After posting this, I read the thread titled "mower retraction" The picture shown for the 2210 lift is very similar to the large chassis lift.

Well, I bought the 4120 and brought it home. I love it so far. It has plenty of power and the 4wd is very useful. The mower deck will be in next month. NO one at the dealer really knew how it was raised and lowered from actual experience. I will take photos once it comes in.

Curious as to what this dealer is doing in the Deere business, not knowing more about the product he is selling. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep, had me a little worried and I guess I still am. I have run an older generation Deere for years and I believe in the company, just not sure about the dealer.
