Mowing 4120 and Belly Mower

   / 4120 and Belly Mower #11
My local JD dealer wa going to get a 4120 for me to demo and the **** thing arrived with a 7 iron mmm and turf tires. I really can't imagine wanting a mmm on that size tractor. I can take some pictures if it is still there (it was a loner from another dealer), but it looks like a real pain in the butt to get off. Why not a finishing mower???

Good luck

Ouch, probably a bad decision on my part. The dealer promised that it was easily removed but they obviously are wrong. I will let you know when it comes in.

If it turns out that it is raised and lowered by the 3-pt, it likely works the same as the 4100, 4110, 4115, and 2210.

The 3-pt goes up and down like normal.

The mower lift brackets pivot on the same shaft as the 3-pt arms and hook over the arms.

The mower lift brackets are only lifted by the 3-point, but not forced down. Thus, it is possible to hold the mower brackets in the raised position with a chain and turnbuckle kit and still lower the 3-pt with some other implement on it.

The 7-iron deck will do a wonderful job of cutting, but
I would think that tractor would be somewhat too heavy and would lead to compaction problems if used on turf on a regular basis

Well, the dealer brought back the tractor with the belly mounted mower. I was very discouraged. The unit is raised up with a convoluted system of hinges and hardware. It will be very difficult to fully use the 3 pt with all that hardware. I am going to take the darn thing off and build my own lift kit. If I had to do over again, I don't think I would use the belly mower.

I know the feeling. I remember wishing my 2210 had seperate hyd. for the mmm. in fact the lift link did get bent once when the rear blade got hung high on some rocks, which wouldn't have been a prob it the mmm had separate hyd. Can't rememeber, the Kubota BX's the same way?

I had to build a subframe for my backhoe and I decided to get rid of the MMM linkage mechanism. Here is a photo of what I did and it works well. Mowed about 15 acres worth and it does a good job of setting the deck each time.

Did you have to get rid of that mid mount mower linkage to use the backhoe? I know your deck uses the same lift system as my 970 and now 990 which I just done installing the 3 point linkage on. If your worried about mower deck removal, the arms on the 3 point to raise and lower the mower are more or less permanant once they are installed. The lift links can be removed by un clipping the circular rings where they connect to the 2 slides on the 3 point arms. And the deck comes off in a matter of minutes. I am just curious as to why you removed the system since it is quite expensive.

Hi Yellowsocks,

No, I did not have to get rid of the linkage to mount the bh. I got rid of it because it limited the 3pt range and use. Since I had to build a frame anyway for the bh, I decided to make a system that would give me greater use of the 3pt.
