We have seen the coolers in automotive radiators leak quite often, they make a mess of the cooling system, the best way we have found to clean the cooling systems is to use plain water and Dawn dish soap in the radiator, it will break down the oil and the system will clean up, we usually drain the system about 3 times running the engine about a hour each time. Thorholt nailed the cleanup. Dawn dish soap works great. Still confused about the leak though. Still leaning toward the cooler but your description of how you tested it sounded thorough. Could still have a small leak that appears when the cooler heats up. Sorry I can't be more help.

I don't know anything about this tractor, but if the cooler is not expensive, I would just change it out and eliminate it rather than risk another episode.
No chance of vandalism. I have not seen any oil coming out of the coolant lines of the cooler but the leak must be slow and the lines point upward so it may take a while for it to fill up to that point. 180 bucks for a new cooler. I am starting there as it is an easy and relatively inexpensive repair. It may turn out to be more but I don't want to work the tractor hard without the cooler. I assume it is there for a reason. Also found several cases where these engines and the 5 cylinder version have done the same thing on generator sets and the oil coolers seem to be the solution. I will keep everyone posted once the new cooler is on and I can get some significant time on the tractor.
