Dealer 419 vs. 300? Dealers pullin' one on me?

Re: 419 vs. 300? Dealers pullin\' one on me?

Did the dealer give you the price for a 300 or the 419? The 419 is for all intents and purposes no longer manufactured so if he wants to sell you one it should be at a discount.

Don't worry about all the questions, the Internet ist he great equalizer. Now instead of you against the dealer it's you and all of us against the dealer. The odds are now in YOUR favor.
For my money I would cough up the extra $200 for the increased lift capacity of the 300 FEL. If what I'm reading is correct in other posts the 419 is now obselete. Your tractor will be more desirable in 5 years with a 300 FEL on it than a 419 FEL on it. Someone mentioned that it's good for an extra 300 lbs, what percentage is that over the capacity of the 419? Probably a pretty big percentage. It's a bummer when you dig into something and hear your hydraulics go into bypass because you've exceeded the capacity (I tried to lift a barn /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif). With the 300 your chances are slimmer that will happen.

Thanks, I thought I should be getting the 300 also, just as to not be buying an obsolete peice.

I'm not sure I'd call the 419 Loader obsolete. However, the 300 does have quite a bit more capacity at the maximum lift height (which is about the same as the 419 loader).

Realistically speaking...how often are you going to lift 610 lbs (419) or 740 lbs (300 FEL) to 88" as a residential owner?

(edited comment): Now, does the new 790 have a new hydraulic pump to go with that new loader? Guess I must look that up in the Deere site.

Looked it up...no change in the Hydraulic specs from the older 790's. Now, where did Deere come up with that higher lift capacity? Is it in bigger cylinders or just a more robust design of the 300 loader?

Just to let you know, for my work, the 419 does fine. I just have to figure out how Deere rated the 300 loader higher.

So, we're playing the specs game here, I think.

As far as resale, I don't believe the early 790's with the #70 loader took a big hit on resale when the 419 was introduced. I don't expect the 419 equipped 790's will take a hit either.

After the first 3 to 5 years, it sure seems like used tractor prices stabilize. However, we're seeing a lot more CUT's sold then there was 5 years ago. I do expect used (especially sold by private sales) prices to drop (as a percentage of the price when new) simply because there are more used CUT's on the market.

Re: 419 vs. 300? Dealers pullin\' one on me?

One other point, it may be possible he isn't trying to pull a fast one, there may not be any 300's in the pipe for him to deliver right away, or not nearly as ready. If he finds that is what you really want, he MAY be able locate one nearby, or they could be scarcer than hen's teeth right now...

Re: 419 vs. 300? Dealers pullin\' one on me?

As the owner of a recently purchased 790 with a 419 loader, I would have preferred to get the 300, they were just coming out late last year a few places, but my dealer couldn't get one before year end.

I doubt if your dealer was trying to pull a fast one unless he specifically showed you a 300 and quoted it and then tried to switch it. It is VERY likely that he has more 419s in the pipeline to sell and can discount them. The FEL is a big part of the cost.

If it is only a matter of $200 more for the 300, I would pay it in a heart beat. Still, if that really breaks the budget and you just don't have the extra cash, you will probably be just as happy with the 419 as I am.

Probably someone will disagree with this statement, but I would really doubt if the dealer was trying to pull a fast one. This is not a market where they survive very long with that kind of attitude.
