4300 mfwd hydro
I am trying to trade my 93 770 2wd pwr steering live clutch with 612 hrs for a 4200 mfwd,hydro,dual scv,r4's and loader.Also looking at the same tractor with the standard trans.I am also pricing a 790 mfwd dual scv,r4's and loader.The best prices I have been quoted are: 4200 hydro $9200.00 tax inc 4200 standard trans $8200.00 + tax and 790 at $7200.00 tax inc.All of these prices are trade prices.I still feel I'm getting the shaft.Do these prices seem in line ? Is the hydro on the 4200 worth the additional cost ? The 790 is wider than the 4200,but the 4200 out weighs the 790 by about 600 #s.Any input from other owners is greatly appreciated.

Sippijdman, I've got a 790 and couldn't be happier. I semi-looked into the 4300 when I got mine, but wasn't too serious as the money was quite a bit more. I got the 790 (4wd, mid PTO, dscv, R1s), 70 loader and 513 cutter together for $15K last fall. Figure $800 for the cutter and your dealer is giving you $7K for your 770. I have no idea if that is fair or not???

As you probably know, the operator station on the 4000 series is a lot roomier and more ergonomic than the 790. I'm 6'1" but fairly light and I have no significant problems entering and exiting. I could see where a larger person could have difficulty. I was concerned about the 790 tph lift capacity but that has not been an issue so far. My cutter is probably the heaviest/furthest back implement I'll ever use and it's fine. Yes, the 790 is lighter. Should be a benefit for finish lawn, though mine will probably never see that duty. I will probably add wheel weights at some point to help with traction.

If you have any more specific questions, let me know /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

First, I think you'll do much much better selling your tractor privately and commanding a higher "top dollar"... day and night difference from what any dealer will offer...unless your trading in on a $70k tractor/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Now some facts:

JD770 - Mfr. Yanmar- '89-97, 20 PTO HP, 1930 lbs. 2WD, $11,295 {Last list price}
Current Auction Pricing:
Low/Avg/High
$4800/5900/8500
{2wd compacts usually get $1000-1500. less than 4wd on condition}

New JD2001 -790 MFWD Promotion Price $10,995 {w/o dickering} - 2 Year factory warranty...

The last few years "street pricing" has come down considerably on all tractors... now pushing the used down... In essence, today you'll find bargains new and old. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
