4200 problems

   / 4200 problems #11
I had/have the same problem with my 4300. Picked up a new thermistor but haven't been able to find the old one yet. I did however find an emergency solution that works for me until the snow stops and I can really rip things apart. I checked the shop manual and found out that if you short the white wire at the solenoid to ground while cranking the engine, this gives full voltage to the start coil on the solenoid while bypassing the thermister, (which is on the ground side). I just skinned a bit of the white wire and stuck in a short jumper wire that I can reach when needed. In my case this is only on the first start of the day when it is below -20C. If it is warmer and the tractor has been plugged in, it seems to start OK, most of the time. I have to remove the side panel to get at my jumper but it sure beats standing there cursing at Big John.(he never listens anyway!)
PS This is the second unit that my dealer has had this trouble with but I didn't get him involved until I found the cause on this site as he is over an hour away. John has about 2000 hrs on him and this has been an intermittent problem for the past two winters, but just isolated this Jan. Good luck Pat
