424 Idle Speed

We have a 424 with about 55 hours on it now. I was wondering if the idle sped can be safely reduced to approx 800-900 RPM without compromising the engines ability to provide adaquete oil pressure (engine and HST) to prevent damage. I suspect the high idle is an emissions thing...does the oiling system need that speed to keep things running right? Also, any thoughts on keeping the electrical system properly energized?

I too have the same machine with ~40 hours. Just curious what benefit are you looking for in reducing idle? Just fuel savings or something else?

I have spoken to Yanmar representative in Georgia and he said it is fine to lower the idle to no lower than 1000rpm. I lowered my 324 idle to 1200 rpm myself. Just be sure not to lug the engine at the low RPM.. Don't let engine to ever drop below the 1000RPM..

Although my tractor is a massey but same HP. I will start my tractor in the summer an it will start idle at 800 RPM then when it warms up, goes to 1000RPM.

Corporate Yanmar told me to not let the engine run or lug below 1000 rpm. I set my idle at 1200 and it is smooth. Just don't work it much at that engine speed.

Good thread, I've been wondering about this myself. Just got this machine a couple of months ago and the idle always seemed high. To those who've done it, what's the proper method for adjusting idle on this engine?
