Well I found out what happens when you hit something with the six-blade setup. I used mine to cut some heavy grass, and brush and broke 4 bolts holding the blades. (there are two bolts holding each blade). I can't blame it on the mower, because I hit some hidden stumps that were just slightly above ground level. If that is all that happens, I can live with it. Consider it a safety valve......
I have the 60'' finish mower that I use on lawn. The brush hog is great for the really bad stuff, but it doesn't cut as nice as this six-blade disc does in the heavy grass.

Ouch! Can PT supply some replacement blades? As I posted earlier the weight of this thing spinning like Catsco said it does = a whole lot of energy transfer when it hits something...and the weakest link will break (grenade!).

I just know I'm going to eventually get into something. I'm trying to mow only known areas....

When I saw the photo, I thought the fixed blades might be a problem. I think a better design would be the six blades attached with a single bolt each and allowed to swing like the brush blades.

I just bent my tilt cylinder again. Hit a hidden stump. Also broke a bolt off the bottom of the mower... GRUMBLE

Hidden stumps, hidden lakes, hidden dozer teeth... Man, it seems like your place is more of an infantry obstacle course and less like a back forty. I have this vision of an alien jungle with blackberry canes actively hunting you as motor blythely into the woods.

You practically seem to need a UAV with ground penetrating radar to get out in front of you.

So, you bent the tilt cylinder how?

Fortunately, it didn't damage the blades or the mounting disc. Broke one bolt on each blade. If you look at the blades, they appear to be the same blades they use on their finish mower decks, but cut in half.

Or....since the blades are held on by two grade 5 bolts, replace both of them; one with grade 8 and the other with grade 2. That way if I hit something the grade 2 will sheer????? I dunno....just thinkin'...

Whatdoyathink Truckfxr? would that have worked for you?

My bush hog for my old Ford used a .5" grade 2 bolt as a sheer pin. it was a 6 footer. Sheered it once when I hit a stump. Sorry Carl.....about the cyl...

I think that may be a good idea. When they broke, I replaced them with whatever I had on hand and they may be grade 5. I was thinking about changing them to grade 2. Using one grade 8 bolt may keep the blade from flying off when the other breaks.

I found out today--it works! Hit a hidden rock (big rock). Sheered all six grade 2 bolts. The inner grade 5 bolts held--I did not initially replace these, my cheap-bone kicked in over $5 worth of bolts! Will replace those with grade 8. I figured they got overly stressed when the 2's were sheered.
