4300 Diff Lock

I just ordered a replacement locking collar for my 4300. So far I just have the right side final drive off enough to find the broken pieces. Is it possible to put the new collar in without taking the top off the transmission/rock shaft to disconnect the engagement fork? It looks like it will be close but until I have the new part I can't tell for sure. The previous owner managed to fish several of the pieces out so I don't have all of them to glue back together for a test fit. Thanks!

I do not recall if you can just slip the new part over the fork (photo), without
backing the shifter fork out a bit. I had mine all apart.

What is the condition of the other side of the dog clutch? Mine was worn pretty
badly, but replacing would require an all-new ring gear ($$$$).

Thanks for the pics, that helps a bit. As for the other surface it isn't perfect but not bad enough I would consider pulling it out to touch up...certainly not bad enough to replace!

Yeah, the inner side of this dog clutch is softer steel, and the dogs get rounded off.
It is part of the ring gear, so replacing it requires purchase of a ring/pinion set, which
is prob north of $500.

I just reshaped them a bit with an abrasive wheel.
