Yeah, I looked again.. no oil cooler I can see.
But.. at the risk of belaboring this thread to death.. I'm not happy with what I've got happening at the moment, and I don't know enough about what I'm doing.
Okay, I got the nut off on the negative terminal, but the one on the positive terminal broke right off. Okay, so I need a new nut/bolt for this. Now I find that the cable on the positive terminal can be moved by hand, so can be removed. The cable to the negative terminal, the one which I successfully removed the nut from, absolutely refuses to budge. I mean serious force won't even wiggle it.
So I said, okay, now I have to wonder what will happen if I apply more force, perhaps rap on it, etc. What if the post itself snaps off and I'm sprayed with acid? What if the pounding causes a spark, and I may have caused a leak by doing the pounding on it? Or what if I just cause a leak, and some future spark ignites it?
So, while pondering the above, I then I address the clamps holding the battery down to the base. One will come lose easily, the other is frozen so solid I'm sure I'll just strip the head off the bolt if I apply any more force.
At this point I said, hmm, this is getting to be a pain, and I don't know enough about batteries to know what's safe to do and what isn't. Maybe the best thing to do is just call the dealer, who has a mechanic who lives near me and drives by here on the way home, and ask them to have him bring out a new battery and install it for me. I'll explain about the bolts and nuts and corrosion/frozen parts problems, and make sure they bring some extras in case they need them (and I know I need at least one.)
I admit it.. I'm a wimp and not terribly mechanically inclined and probably lack the correct tools for the job /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (and don't weld) but at least I'll be a wimp who hasn't been blown up, blinded by acid, caused himself major repair bills, etc. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I learned one lesson, at least.. key an eye on that battery and deal with problems before they get out of hand!
Who ever heard of a tractor guy who can't change a battery??!
