SHHH! I think henro heard that!!

That describes mine as well, I will take a look at it, I bet the hinge pins may come into play. One of our Deere UberTechs may have advice...

Laugh all you want Mike - If I do "Drill My ROPS" I know just who to ask for advice! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Seriously though - I can see that the holes aren't quite lined up right if one side has the pin in - I figure it's kinda like new shoes, they'll loosen up in time, and with a few more whacks with the mallet.

Hey at lest they don't rattle. My neighbor had to rubber mount his pins so they don't rattle.

I'll bet thats annoying - I had a Z24 Convertible once - it's top pins rattled like crazy and I tried everything to silence them. For the sake of my own sanity I got rid of the car within 6 months.

That would be bad to have to sell a car that fast! Over time your pins will fit snug but not too tight you need a hammer. Maybe take a small file instead of a drill to somewhat loosen them up.

Well I went and picked my tractor up this afternoon and all seems well. It is nice to be able to raise the steering wheel again. What is funny is that plastic steering wheel is what almost turned me away from the Deere. I do hope there are no more problems with it. They got the MFWD fixed after that pin sheered. I meant to ask if they still had the pin but I forgot. I am glad I took it in when I did because tonight for the very first time I needed to back the tractor into the garage to do some tweaking on the planter I built and I was actually able to lower the ROPS. They are smooth as silk now.

I bought my 4310 eHydro on April 21st, 2003. It had 8 hours on it when I bought it. Had it home less than a week and put
2+ hours on it and noticed a serious oil leak out of the
right end of the rear axle. It needed a new rear axle seal.
Part was about $17 but they had to split the tranny
to get the axle retaining clip off. My dealer is a small
dealer, (mostly lawn and garden and no ag implements and
no large ag tractors) so it took them a week to get it repaired.
About a month after that, the handle on the seat adjuster
broke. And just this week (April 2004) one of the upper tabs
on the front grill broke. The dealer took care of everything
with no probs. I guess that this experience hasn't been
any difference than ones I have had with new cars.
My wife ordered a new chevy eurosport in 1980 and we
didn't get 10 miles on it before we had to have it towed in.
It was a February evening and we turned on the headlights and only went about 1 mile after that. It turned out
the alternator was never hooked up. When it had about 15K miles on it, the shifter fork broke. (manual tranny) It took
the dealer a week to get the part as our car was the only
manual tranny that the dealership had ever sold in the
Eurosport line. I guess that's why they have warranties
on new cars and compact utility tractors.
Don't get me wrong... I am very satisfied with my 4310.

<font color="green"> the handle on the seat adjuster

Was it the new handle that wasn't even mentioned in the Owners Manual? I broke that one just trying to figure out what it did. Turns out you need to be seated on the tractor to adjust it. I think they did goof there, there should have been a tag hanging from it describing its function and how to use it. But it was quickly resolved by my dealer as well...

I have a 4600 that gets used way beyond it's means. It now has over 2000 hours on it and I have yet to have problems with it.

Wow - that is exceptional - I know the old Lumina/Eurosports and all those early GM front drivers were never the epitome of quality - But your failure must be one of the earliest around. My old cavalier was a gorgeous convertible, but the leaks and squeeks just drove me nuts to the point I couldn't keep it any longer.

I think the dealer, and mechanic must have something to do wiith initial quality. I know that Marvin, the dealer I bought mine from had my tractor inside for over a day just going through it, cleaning, and welding hooks on the FEL. It shows too - I am sure I'll continue to have good luck with it. The way I car for things it should go for years.
