Are the ehydro problems with the transmission solved? Whenever I ask a Deere dealer they don't seem to know what I'm talking about. The answer varies from "Heard about some earlier models having some problems but we haven't had any" to no problems at all. However, I have seen on this forum that there have been some issues, I feel that it is probably the exception rather than the rule. Are most of you 4310 owners comfortable with your machine or are you waiting for the shoe to drop? My local dealer just got one in setup the way I want and I really like the machine but I want to feel confident that Deere has now solved whatever problems there may have been. This dealer didn't know of any problems with ehydros, thought it was with sync reversers. I've driven this machine and didn't notice any petal response lag (as stated in other threads) but will try that again. Thumbs up or down on this tractor? Also, he doesn't think the tires need loaded, thinks 3pt blade will be enough-thoughts on that? Will be going with 430 Fel.

I cannot begin to say how awesome eHydro is! There were some safety related issues that were fixed its great!

On ballast, you will likely need it, but there are many ways to go, each has pluses and minuses. I don't think a blade is enough, unless its a REAL stout boxblade. Ask him to throw in a ballast box, a lot of dealers will, as it is a great safety improver.

AWESOME MACHINE

I have the 4300 with synchreverser...love it and never a problem. I also have the 430 loader.

Some ideas/opinions now. you will need ballast or larger implement (brush hog etc) for real loader use. That loader can lift a full bucket of dirt/gravel/rock/whatever...and get real heavy. I do not have ballast in the wheels but I do use a lrger implement than just a rear or bax blade. Also consider a heavier duty bucket than standard. I have the 61" (basic I believe). It does geat work but has a few dents in the top bar area. I have never had a proble but would think a heavier bucket wold be nice...less chance of damage and able to attach accessory hooks without adding a support plate.

I love the tractor...but do not know much about the hydro version....sorry about the lack of help in that area.

I'm extremely happy with my eHydro. I never had a problem with mine but they came and got it and changed the transmission anyway, and did an awesome job on it. The eHydro makes "seat time" much more enjoyable. As far as future problems, the "problem" doesn't bother me as much as the manufacturer's and dealer's ability and effort to deal with it, pointing back to the importance of choosing a good dealer.
As far as loading the tires, I had mine done even though my first inclination was the ballast box. They said most of their customers that had the box wound up loading the tires later anyway because of the inconvienence of taking the box on and off. A lot of my use is mowing and with the rear R4's being so wide there is no lawn damage even in the spring. In fact, the narrow front tires have caused more problems than the rears. Loaded tires give a lower, wider center of gravity than weight off the back end enhancing safety when working on slopes. The tires were loaded with sugar beet juice, btw.

Are you back here again??? I've been looking at the NH forum waiting for you to get one... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I can only relate what I've heard and what I've done with mine. I heard at the time I talked to my dealer about it that the problems were with early production units ... maybe early 03 - I don't recall exactly the time frame.

With that said, and if you read my thread on reaching 50 hours you'll see that I've experienced no problems to date. The tractor has done everything I could ask of it, and quite a bit more. It really is a well built, solid "little" tractor.

Cedarman - I really doubt that you'd regret getting a 4x10 series tractor. I've put hours on mine rapidly considering most of my seat time has been on weekends - in between our never ending rain. It's features and set-up are outstanding for long days. I've even grown to like the cruise control that it comes with - it comes in handy on my trips back and forth between the process pile and the area I'm building up.

Whatever you decide to get I think hydro is the way to go. As always, there are varying opinions, but I still think the majority of folks here looking and owning machines in this size range would agree.

Good Luck,

It cost me $6 to load my tires myself, ( I used recycled doggy safe antifreeze) that's why I suggest the ballast box. For heavy loader work, it really helps to have both, for lighter work, one or the other...

Oh yeah Steve, I've been around. Have got the wife convinced that I'm addicted to this site. I've read with interest alot of posts and comments that have really expanded my knowledge (probably still limited). I appreciate all of the input you and Mike, as well as all others, have given me. I read of Craig's troubles and that was what prompted my concern over reliability. I liked the way his dealer and Deere (eventually) came through for him and from what I have read he is now a happy camper. If you've seen some of my comments on other forums you know that I think JD is the best value for the money. I think they offer more ease of operation and are a little better thought out for the operator. I also like the NH33Da, another fine machine-probably a little more comfortable, better loader view for operation. Their loader really extends out infront of the wheels which can be good and bad. The NH dealer is 40 minutes away and seems to be good. The Deere dealer is 5 minutes away and I know is good, as everything I own from 317 to 620ztrak to weedeater to backpack leaf blower to other things used up and trashed have been Deere. Fate keeps pulling me to Deere. My dealer just got the 4310 ehydro on his lot as I decided it was going to be the NH. I drove back to the NH dealer to drive his 33D again and began to think of the drive and thought that it would sure be inconvenient to make that drive for some little thing. (Am I rambling?) Anyway, where I am at with another JD dealer 30 minutes away is $21,000 for a JD 4310 ehydro, 4wd, 430Fel, 61" hd bucket with guard, mid PTO and 60"mmm, 3rd rear SVC, folding ROPS and the rest of the goodies. This dealer thinks he can get one in 2-3 wks. If I can get my local guy (tends to be high but flexible in the end) then I will probably continue to be a Deere guy and buy the one on the lot. NH is about $1000 higher for the same setup on the 33Da. Will keep you guys updated and thanks to all.

Cedarman,

I think I'm the Craig you are talking about. My dealer did come through for me. It took a little time but that was also partially my fault. I could have pressed the issue harder than I did and earlier than I did. I am very happy with my 4310 now. I, like you, went back and forth between the different tractors; orange, blue, or green. I had my heart set on one color and then decided that another was a better choice. In the end all the tractors are very good machines. Some features are better on one color and other features are better on another. If you take too much time to decide you will end up like me last year. By the time I made up my mind and ordered the tractor I wanted set up like I wanted it, most of the summer was already gone. I did not get much done before fall. I think the most important factor in picking the tractor is the dealer. You need a dealership that will support you in the years after you buy the tractor no matter what color it ends up being. I know for me, if I ever do buy another tractor(hope I don't have to) I don't care what color it is as long as I buy it from K.C. Canary. Chances are it will be green though. For me the closest dealers sell NH and Kubota. I did think about this when I bought. I ended up going with the dealer that made me feel the most comfortable, and I'm glad I did. K.C. Canary is not even my closest JD dealer, there are 2 closer. This has not been a problem for me even with all the times my tractor was in the shop. They would come and get the tractor the next day. Even times I have needed parts or little accessories from JD they sent it overnight to my house.

Just a couple of things I would/would not do if I did it over again...

1. For one thing, tractors of this size are not finish mowers. I don't even know why they sell the MMM for these tractors. I wanted to mow with mine and it just never worked out for me. I know that alot of members here will say they are great finish mowers but I disagree. I'm talking about ballpark finish mowing, they do mow pastures great though. These tractors are too heavy even with non loaded turf tires. I had problems with the tires set to the wide position for my hills hitting the MMM when I turned. I ended up returning the deck. My yard would take seven hours to mow with a 21" walk behind, cut this to 45 min with a 48"zero turn I demoed at my house, the tractor bumped this back up to 3 hours. Also not nearly as easy to get the MMM on and off as you would think. Keep this in mind when you spec your machine.

2. I would not have gotten the mid pto. This is an expensive option that can only be used for the MMM, Front broom, and front snowblower. Never could see using the broom. The MMM issues I layed out above. JD's 59" front blower is very expensive and too narrow for this tractor. I ended up getting a wider 3pt snowblower at a fraction of the cost. I think it is easier to see with it mounted on the 3pt. Also you can keep the FEL on for other uses in winter.

3. I got the 4 in 1 bucket. Probally the handiest attachment out there. I think of new uses for this every day. Grading, turf removal, grabbing small trees out of the ground stump and all, crushing things going into the dumpster, picking up just about anything, using it as a bulldozer blade, grabbing roots, you can have a toothbar on one edge and open the bucket and now you have a smooth edge. The only draw back is that it is small. It holds much less volume than the regular or HD bucket. Now I would get both buckets.

3. I would get the power beyond and 48BH from the start. It is going to cost me alot more to do it now. .

4. Get the fiberglass canopy. Keeps the sun, snow and small falling objects off of your head. I have found that you can still fold the ROPS with the canopy on. That is how it fits in my garage.

Go with the dealer you know will treat you right. One that will give you outstanding service when you need it. And one that will go to bat for you if it is ever needed. Alot of members here say that all tractors will have some problems. My first had way too many and my current has not had any. I don't think you should base your purchase on the problems I had with my old tractor, but you can look at how JD and their dealer network came through for me. Think hard about the intended use of the tractor and get the larger options with the tractor. They can be costly after the sale.

Good luck with what ever color tractor you choose. They are all great machines. Remember the dealer is the most important option.

I was just kidding about being back here.
It all sounds good - I went through pretty much the same thing.. addiction comments and all /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I was ready to buy a Bota - then a Kioti - then I came back to Deere... it just kept pulling me in. The whole package was right for me as well, including the dealer location and the product. Bota and Deere were my two final choices, and price wasn't a consideration - the L3130 and the 4310 were within a couple hundred of each other. I know having the dealer close helped - but the Bota dealer never had a L3130 that I could try and the Deere was ready to go.

By all means keep us posted - I think most of us know what it's like to be this close to buying. Enjoy it!

Take Care,
