4310 ePwrRevsr Clutch Problem

I went to order the valve and the parts guy was asking what it was doing? I have only had this tractor for a month maybe what it is doing is normal. When I use it in the A,B ranges it seems ok will spin tires and bog the engine, but when in say C 2, or 3 it will take off fine pull a blade on light pull on rocks but if it has to pull harder it will stop. It won't pull down the engine, I can shift down to B range and have no problems. Is it that I am using too high of a gear for what I am doing? I just asumed that it would start to run out of power and try to kill the engine. I know hydro systems will just stall the pump and sit there but I'm not sure about this one. Any insight would be greatly appreciated .

glt61 I have a 4310 e-hydro and can tell you c range is for road use only. Mine is too high for any pulling. Is it is normal, I don't know. I use A for box blading and loader work, B for mowing and C for road travel. I would use it for more time and use the range that closely matches what you are doing. In other words use the slowest range you can tolerate b-4 you go insane from being too slow. :)

Edit- on page 27 in my owners manual it specifies what gear to use for what application in section titled - Operating the ePowrReverser Transmission - Who would have thought to look there?? If all else fails look in the manual.

If you are letting the tractor stop or slow down in gear yet the engine is going steady, you are burning up the clutch. You have a forward and rear clutch in a power reverser. Put it in a lower gear to work, higher gear to get where you're going.

As others have said, C range is not for working at all. I use B most of the time and A when I am spraying (for low speed) or pulling a box blade full of gravel (for maximum power).

Thanks for the info, I was blading snow we had about 3 1/2 inces and I have a long drive way. I angled the blade and drove down the drive way in C 2 with no problems until I got to the end where the snow plow had left a pile I slowed down to look for traffic and it would not crawl over the 2 ft snow pile at the end. I down shifted to B range and it spun the front tires and rear tires and crawled right through. I just thought it seemed strange that it would stall like that. I have been using the FEL to move dirt and rock in B 2 and it has had no issues at all it digs like a dozer. So I guess it is normal . Thanks Guys.

I bought the tractor used and didn't get a manual where's the best place to get one aftermarket. Or should I just go to JD to order the original.

For right now, until you get a hard copy, you can look at the manual here on JD's website. OMLVU13193_H2

Those are pretty common on eBay, I have had good luck there.

You have to remove a cover on the bottom held on by 6 tiny bolts. The pressure regulator valve is on the left side of the housing and looks like a brass plug. You can feel it better than you can see it. The valve cost $75 plus shipping. It took all of about 10 minutes to change it. We had to cut a box wrench to get it loose. Part number is G02610. The funny thing is that the tech that originally came out was so sure that it was the rotary sensor and even the guy that sold me the valve said the same thing. I'm starting to sound like a mechanic.

I have a 4310 ereverser with both forward and reverse slipping under load - still, after changing fluids filters and cleaning the screen. The pressure regulator valve part number is now YZ81053 but I find no "rotory sensor." Where is that?

I had a very similar problem. Tractor would move forward normally, but reverse you sat there for a while before it finally would move.

Figuring I had lost a clutch seal, split the tractor. One seal was bad. Replaced all the seals and new fluid. Tractor would reverse a little quicker, but would not carry a load. Replaced the transmission controller, no change. When the wires were swapped on the solenoid and the tractor would reverse fine but die immediately and would not start until they were switched back. Just about to order new solenoids and transducers when I saw this post. Took out the pressure regulator valve and cleaned it well and the tractor worked better. Ordered a new one and now it is back to normal. 2002 JD 4310 Epower reverser.
