4310 FEL Float

You could use it to smooth out an area that has had work done on it. Say you're trying to fill ruts in (or something similiar), you could dump the dirt in the ruts and then put your bucket over the dirt in float mode and then just back up. The weight of the bucket would smooth out the dirt. Thats just one example that popped into my head.

Hi

I use the float feature for backing up with the blade at an angle to the ground. It is great for smoothing out bumps and dips in dirt and gravel.

I tilt the bucket lip down at 45 to 90 degrees, set the loader down to the ground, and bump the stick forward to float. Drag the blade backward and there you have it !! Adjust the angle to get the right amount of digging action depending on the material.

Have fun

John

Thanks Steve02,

I didn't even realize I had float. I've been using an old Ford 8N for years (great machine) and I'm not used to all the bells and whistles I got with my new 4310. This is also the first I've worked with a front end loader. I've only had it a couple of months and don't know how I ever lived without it. I'm sure there's plenty more for me to learn and am glad this forum exists to ask my questions.

I thought the 430 came with a bucket indicator? (Mine did) Yes, it helps quite a bit, especially when moving snow toavoid gouging the lawn/gravel driveway. Also when clearing the clay floor out of the barn. Also....

I too thought the bucket indicator would be standard equipment on a JD loader. My 4210/420 is the first tractor I ever owned with a loader and the longer I have mine, the more uses I think of. The biggest advantage of a loader is the multiple tasks it can accomplish, I use mine for snow removal, material digging and transport, leveling, moving huge stones, picking up logs to section into firewood, etc. Had to sharpen the blades on my 60 inch 7-Iron deck this spring, it weighs 400 lbs.....just hoist it with the loader and go at the sharpening. I've got a huge lot with lots of tree debris to clean up in the spring, just fill the loader bucket, drive back and dump it on the brushpile. Sure beats filling trash cans and putting them on a utility trailer and going back and dumping them on a pile seven feet high...

If you get a loader for your tractor, you are going to wonder how you ever managed to do without one for so long.
