Ken,

The dollar is on its way to you as I type this . . . would you please explain in elementary terms how the ". . . lever is what controls those rear ports. Its the OEM rear 3rd SCV kit from John Deere" . . . works. The 4310 manual description makes it hard to understand.

I just don't understand the difficulty here, wow.

When you have a cylinder connected to these ports (with hoses or course) it extends when the lever is moved one way, and retracts when it's move the other way.

Same as your loader, right?

Thanks for all your help . . . but I'm a "hands on" kind of 80 year old guy . . . what I was hoping for was - OK, I've attached two hoses to the rear scv ports and have hoses running to the front of my 4310 and hooked up to my grapple - how do I activate my grapple, to open and close it, to raise and lower it? And how do I work or set the scv lever in my cab?

The four ports for the bucket are not involved in any way?

The FEL will raise and lower, and tilt using the joy stick and those 4 ports you mentioned.
The grapple will open and close using the lever pointed out to you showing the cylinder in and out.
You will have those two hydraulic lines running from the rear ports in your first photo to the cylinder on the FEL grapple to open and close it as desired. You mention those are in place.

Here are two photos of my grapple that is currently in shed storage. I inserted the hoses into one another just to keep them free of dust and dirt.

Am I correct by writing - (1) the joy stick can be used to raise and lower the grapple. And (2) the SCV lever in the cab on the fender can be used to open and close the grapple. Thanks again, FredSG

Correct, but also the joy stick will tilt your grapple that is attached to your FEL (front end loader). Just like dumping the bucket when it was used.

A trick, I found, was routing the hydraulic lines from the rear end of the tractor to the front of the loader. Disconnects needed if removing the forks, as well as needed if removing the FEL.

My "grapple" is just a thumb (The Thumb) used to grasp brush and hold logs when using the forks on my FEL.

On my 4310 I run a grapple that I made. I run two smaller hoses to the grapple along the side of the cab and then have them strapped to the loader arm with ball bungees and at the front with a loose large rubber bungee. This enables the hose to move back-and-forth without getting caught. Once it’s plugged into the rear ports tilt your bucket/grapple like you would a loader bucket, and move that lever closest to the seat forward and back, and it will open and close that cylinder on top of the grapple you will need to match up the quick connectors to fit at the back of your tractor. The reason I ran small diameter hoses is you don’t need that cylinder that operates your grapple to move rapidly. Just like on the rear blade that pivots hydraulically I had to install a restrictor to keep it from moving too fast. I know you can always feather the control handle but it’s just a personal preference. Good luck.

An electric-activated diverter can be put into two of the 4 FEL ports, creating another 2 outlets. The electric toggle switch can be put on the joystick, a simple one-handed operation. The 2 extra hoses can be permanently fixed to the FEL with 2 quick couplings just behind the bucket, so any hydraulic can be connected.
