JD 4310 & X595
What's with the JD fuel gauges? This summer I had the dealer replace the one on my X595 which was still under warranty. This weekend I noticed the gauge on my 4310 is not working. Although the 4310 is under warranty as well, the dealer charges a $100 to trailer it in and back. I don't own a trailer or a truck large enough to pull a rental so I have to pay if I want the dealer to do the work.

Has anyone replaced the sending unit themselves and if so, is it a relatively easy job?

My 4300 has occasionally had the float stick near empty. Usually when I bump it with the big filling nozzle. I jiggle it loose with a clean piece of wire and it works fine for the next year or so. Might try that first.

My 4610 is going on 3 years old and the dealer has changed the fuel sending unit twice and the gauge is still inaccurate. I've grown accustomed to the error and now I know how to compensate for it. From what I've read here and in other forums, the fuel gauge issue was a problem throughout the XX10 series of tractors.

I've had my 4310 since last April. The gauge has never read more than 3/4 full. It has a 10 gallon tank and I have let it get close to red and was not able to put even 5 gallons in. I've learned to live with it. May have it changed if some other warranty issue comes up.
