JD 4310 Hydro 4WD R4s
My tractor finally arrived today! Thanks to everyone for all the help. After all of the negotiations with different dealers I came in right at 20% off list.

A couple of things I noticed right away, one is the importance of 4WD. I went up to a pile of sand and started pushing to get a load and the tires started spinning. I figured lets see if the 4WD will make a difference and she pushed right on through. I didn't have 4WD on my 855 and now I know what people mean when they say it is a must. The other thing that surprised me was when I got the full load of sand in the bucket I shook the loader to get off the excess and the back wheels came off the ground just a bit. Scared the **** out of me. The tire are supposed to be loaded with Rimguard and that never happened on my 855. The bucket is now 5ft and on my 855 it was 4ft but I wouldn't think it would matter that much.

Does anyone know if there is a big weight difference in Rimguard vs. I think I had calcium chloride in the 855 tires?

V E R Y Nice!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Congratulations.

Great looking set up. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

And you remembered pictures too! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif You're definitely off to a great start.

Now get that ballast thing remedied, and dirty her up! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Looks great!!!

The Rimguard is HEAVIER than calcium. Mut I bet the bigger bucket is more capicty than you suspect... Rear ballast on the 3point is a must. A box blade might do the trick, but a ballast box is even better...

Congrats on the new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Glad you were able to take some pictures before you get it dirty. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
If you need a weight box. Let me know. I have one to get rid of for a good price. I could even deliver it.
I have not been to Metamora since I was a summer counselor at the Boy Scout camp.

Jim,

That is really a sharp tractor. The FEL has some nice lines.

Ron,

I haven't been to Metamora since I was in Boy Scouts.

Nice price on a fine tractor.

MFWD comes in handy surprisingly often.

Filling the tires helps, but the farther back the ballast the more effective it is. You'd best get something heavy hanging off the back. It's also possible that they forgot to fill your tires, or did it improperly, I suppose.

I recommend you spring for an I-Match Ballast Box. Then taking it on an off is a breeze--you never have to leave the seat.

The older ballast boxes look almost the same, but they are not I-Match compatible. The I-Match decal is on the new ones.

Jim,
Congratulations! that is a nice looking tractor and it sounds like you got the right set of implements.

I might be wrong but I could swear in that last pic one of your neighbors is "green" with envy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you have not gotten a toothbar you might think about getting one.

Have fun and be safe.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. I'll probably get either the imatch ballast box or a box blade. I just assumed that the loaded tires would be adequate. I noticed in the manual for the 300x that they recommend loaded tires and a ballast box. After looking at the bucket compared to my old woods loader bucket it is much larger.

Come to think of it I will probably buy a 6ft box blade. How could the wife argue that I don't need anything else for the tractor, it is a matter of safety you know /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You guys in MI should have bought some property by that boy scouts camp long ago. You could be driving a tractor made of gold /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mark,

The link for EZ Attachments works but it only says the Items are by H&H Mfg.....no visible way to contact them or find local dealers. Any more known info about H&H?

Thanks,

Dave in VA

I want a 4310! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The new machine looks great! As I was looking at the pic (before I read the thread) I noticed your 4310 looked different from all the others I've seen. I then noticed you got the new 300x loader. Very cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Metamora is about 40 miles N of Detroit and 20 miles E of Flint. Thanks again!

Nice 4310!

Are you sure the tires are loaded? I do not have loaded tires on my 4310 and rely on just the weight box. I have moved heaping buckets of stone and dirt over uneven ground without any tipping. I have a habit of bouncing the loader after lifting the first load to check stability and have not experienced any wheel lifting.

Maybe the weight box is more effective than filled tires but I would check to make sure the tires were actually filled. Another reason for using the weight box (or some othe 3PH mounted weight) when using the FEL is to relieve some of the weight off of the front axle seals.

I'll call the dealer on Monday, but I am sure they must be loaded or I think I would have went over the hood. Thinking about it I should have tilted the bucket back and forth to shake off the excess. I think I dropped the loader arms up and down and with a full bucket of wet sand I think it just lifted a little in the rear. I'm not sure it even came off the ground at all but it definitely didn't feel right. I did drive with the full bucket afterwards and dumped it without a problem.

I'll still use the incident as a good excuse to by me a box blade /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
