I have a 4310 Hydro with 30 hours. I have started to notice a creep in foward after letting up on the pedal. The tractor will almost come to a complete stop and creep about six inches. It does it in both short and long range on the Hydro switch. It did not do this when the tractor was new and does not do it in reverse just foward. Is there an adjustment for this or do I need to take it to the dealer? I do not believe this is normal as I did not have this problem before.

Thanks in advance for comments, John

Solution Number: 53917

Doc ID: LV53917

Date: 25October2002

Solution Summary: SIB 02-11-35-07 Tractor Rolls Farther Then Expected When e-HST Forward/Reverse Pedals Are Released –
4000 Ten Series Compact Utility Tractors

Publication Date: Oct 29 2002

02-11-35-7 (Linked To Pathways)

Complaint or Symptom:
1. When the Electronic Hydrostatic Transmission (e-HST) pedals are released, the tractor coasts (rolls) farther than expected in neutral.
2. The console mounted motion match rocker switch does not reduce roll-out adequately.

Problem:
The 4000 Ten Series was designed with greater rollout to reduce customer complaints of aggressive slowdown of the prior 4000 series.

Solution:
Install a new LVA12541 Controller with a higher deceleration characteristic for applications requiring greater slowdown.

1. Park the machine on a level surface with the parking brake set and the key switch in the off position.
2. Remove the fuse box cover, left side panel and left cowl.
3. Loosen the 8mm retainer cap screw holding the number 30 pin connector to the controller and disconnect.
4. Remove the two controller retaining cap screws and install the new controller.
5. Torque the two M6 retaining cap screws to 16 N•m (12 ft-lb).
6. Reconnect the number 30 pin connector to the controller and torque the M8 retaining cap screws to 0.12 N•m (17.5 in lb).
7. Install the cowl, fuse box cover and side panel.
8. Recalibrate the e-HST controller following DTAC solution 54179.
9. Return the LVA10838 controller to the following address.

John Deere Commercial Products
Attn: DTAC
700 Horizon South Parkway

Part:
1 - LVA12541 Controller

Additional information:
The recalibrated controller is released as a running change for production.

Joecdeere,
Sounds like me. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the dealer. Thanks for the info.

mine did it in reverse only, from new. i have one of the early '02 4310. dealer said is was normal until i demanded he came out and tried to hook up an implement. if i just touched the reverse pedal ever so lightly the tractor went 6-8" and smashed or moved the implemnent. not so with the forward as I could put the tractor within a dime if desired. the dealer came out and said 'wow' somethings wrong, took it back and couldn't fix it, even sent his guys to JD's school and still couldn't fix it. I then bought a service manaul and found that the associtated test would take all day, as the dealer soon learned, he said 'hell with it, i can't have a mechanic spend all day with a multimeter troublshooting this' He then went out into the lot a stole a new computer from one on the lot, plugged it into mine and, whalla, fixed. he said he would fight with JD later. JD will have to learn that the mechanics are not going to spend the time needed to troubleshoot and either start a plug-and-play campaign for now until their software becomes self diagnosing like the cars of today with the codes and such. My tractor works like a champ now, can stop or move her within a 1/4 inch to hook up stuff. This all happened this summer and nothing was mentioned about 'adding a component'

I have noticed the same problem with my 110 tlb. At first I thought it was learning curve when I was going to hook up front implements to the front quick attach and pushed the implement all over the yard. Then, when I was plowing over a steep bank, I accidently touched the forward instead of the reverse and the machine went eighteen inches which sent the front wheels over the bank, lifted my rear wheels, dumped me on my loader arms, gave me a wicked scare, and caused me to be stuck until I lifted the front with the plow stuck straight down into the bank. Then I read this post. Every time the forward pedal is touched the tractor advances about 18 inches uphill, downhill, anytime. I think this is the same problem you guys are having, but I don't have a motion control rocker switch. Anyone know for sure?

These sound to me like a different problem than the solution posted by joecdeere. I have been learning quite a bit about how these eHydro systems work, and I think the extra creep after almost coming to a stop could be caused simply by the controller not being properly calibrated. There is a recalibration routine given in the technical manual that any dealer should be able to perform in just a few minutes and it doesn't require taking the tractor into the shop. If that fixes the problem, then great. If not, then at least the easy fix was tried first.
