I'm looking for feedback from all the 4310 owners out there with a MMM. 60" vs. 72".

I'm leaning toward the 60" because I think it will go to more places especially when I use the FEL with the MMM still attached. I currently have a 60" MMM on my JD755 so some lawn obstacles have been set to accomodate this width. I mow my pasture with the MMM as years of using the bush hog have gotten it in good shape. The smaller MMM would be a better match for the high grass and uneven surfaces. The savings in mow time between the 72" and 60" is not a factor.

It appears the 60" MMM will be barely outside the the tire tread width (mine will have R4's). Any problems with this?

Anyone with 60" decks that wish they had bigger? Anyone with 72" decks that wish they had smaller (ya, right)?

Any other factors I should consider in my selection?

Thanks for your replies. I'll be ordering my 4310 in the next couple of weeks.

rockyridgefarm,

Any input is certainly welcome, below are what I have spec'd:
4310, 4WD, ehydro
Mid PTO
R4 tires
Dual mid and single rear SCV
Power Beyond (in case my neighbor lets me use his 48BH /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Engine coolant and transmission oil heaters
Forward and rear work lights with brush guards
Automotive cruise and speed match.
MMM
430 FEL with heavy duty bucket and level indicator.

I have been toying with the idea of getting a front mounted snowblower but I don't want to get greedy.

Nothing wrong with one deck over the other. I have used both decks. I moved up to the 72" from the 60" to reduce mowing time. I have not found anything with the 72" that would make me want the 60" again. I have found that the 72" deck appears to be a better fit for this size CUT. As stated the 60" just reaches the outside of the back tires. The 72" allows you to reach out and trim closer to objects.

Give it some thought. I went with the 60" and tried to trade it a year later. The better $$$ option was to trade the entire 4310 to get the 72" mmm. I also moved up to a 4410 and the 48BH. A year later my dealer still has my 60" deck.

I have the 72" mower on a 4200, and selected it for the reasons stated by others... I want the deck to reach out beyond the tires a bit.
In my case, having a 72" mower is overkill for my yard... I can mow the whole thing in 35 minutes... but its the only task I do regularly to put any hours on the tractor (45 hours per year). If I had to do it all over I would not get a belly mower at all. It is too much trouble to put on and off for loader work, and it has trouble sucking up the grass that the front tires run over, leading to streaks. This problem is mainly on bluegrass laid as sod- the seeded grass doesn't seem to have that problem.

Brent,
If you had the 60" mower, would you need to take the MMM off to do loader work? I would think it wouldn't get in the way as much, or is there some other reason you take it off.

Looks about perfect!

You won't believe it, but I have been looking at *55 models. I'd like to find one with a belly mower to replace my riding mower... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

But the 4310 STAYS!

I have the 60" MMM on my 4300. I got the 60" because of some small areas around the house. It is a good mower, I mow a lot of grass and sometimes on hot days, I think about the 72", but I will stick with the 60". I have no trouble using the 430 FEL with the MMM on mounted. It is only slightly wider the the wheels.

I can't say enough about the 755. After 16 years, I figure it's time to get a new one. It has done a great job but I could use more hydraulic capacity. Don't absolutely need it but there are times....

The hit I'm going to take is mowing the lawn with the heavier weight of the 4310.

DPR,

Thanks for the feedback. Can you mow up tight and around objects such as mowing around trees or landscape beds?
