Tractor
John Deere 790 (sold)
I'm a new user and this is my first post, so please forgive me if I mess it up...

I'm looking at getting my first tractor and don't want to get it wrong. I have found a deler that I am very happy with, so if these prices are off a little its fine with me.

4310 $15700
4410 $17100
Both are eHydro and 4x4

So, I got to thinking (oh-noooo) if you divide the price of the tractor by its horse power rating you end up with:

4310 $15700 / 32 = 490.63 $/HP
4410 $17100 / 35 = 488.57 $/HP

So, is the 4410 more bang for the buck?
Do any of you 4310 owners ever wish you had just a little bit more go power?

Any insite would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I am very happy with my 4310, do I wish I had more power?? Sure. With more power I would only want more power. I have no complaints about the 4310. Save the money. Buy some attachments, FEL is my favorite, moved a lot of dirt today in less than an hour. Would have been a good half day or full day project for this solo laborer.

I don't miss the power as much as MORE IMPLEMENTS!!!

But, you would not go wrong with the 4410 (except for whining to be allowed in Club4310 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) If YOU would refret getting the better price per Hp, GET IT!!

Waldo,
I debated the same thing, and ended up with the 4410. Didn't want to look back and say "I should have...". If you can afford the $ difference, you'll be happier in the long run, especially since the tractor will probably outlive you. But then again, I don't think there are any jobs I've done that I couldn't have accomplished or attachments I couldn't operate if I had a couple of fewer HP, maybe just a tad slower.

A good idea is to look at the implement chart. Is there anything that the 4410 is rated, above the 4310? Do you need it? As another example; A 48 backoe does more than a 47, but over 90% of my useage is handled by the 47, and I am comfortable with that.

I am asking question, not giving answers. either machine can serve you well...

You can take this for what it's worth - Recently my wife and I visited some of our TBN friends in Vermont. During the course of the evening, my wife had explained that I did not have my tractor. As we were preparing to leave, our hostess (Tamara - Boondox's lovely wife), turned to my wife and said that she would give my wife only one piece of advice concerning the tractor. She said, "Whatever tractor he decides to get, make sure he gets the next larger size. You won't regret it."

A VERY smart lady! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Golfgar and Boondox,
ya think if we have a cook out at my place, you can bring your wives along? I need both to tell my wife, what ever tractor is chosen have him go one size bigger. I jsut knew there were some understanding wives out there, glad to hear it.:))

I guess I should have given more info, so here goes...

I will be traiding my truck payment (being paid off) into a tractor payment. I should be getting two 3.33 acres lots soon. They are "diamonds in the rough" and about 40% wooded. I was all set to get a 4310 eHydro MFWD, 430 FEL, 48 BH (18" bucket), MX5 and iMatch. Its the Oklahoma heat coupled with the MX5 minumim 25 PTO hourse power requirment that has me concerned. Will running the 4310 at its full rated output in high heat cause problems? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks to all of you here, I've already learned a lot from you TBN'ers /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I ran my 4310 with MX-5 cutter through the dog days of summer. The tractor seemed fine. I, on the other hand, sweat bullets the whole time. Sitting on that thing is like sitting on a radiator for 8 hours. Makes me look forward to all the work I am going to get done this fall and winter.

By the way, I struggled with the same issue you are. I went with the 4310 and am shocked with all the work it can do. It was unable to do a few things, but I don't think a few extra hp would have helped.

Good luck...

New member myself,ya did fine, also a very generous and forgiving forum, thank you one and all, I can't even begin to keep up with all of the very useful forums on TBN.I bought my tractor as a commercial investment, and went with J.D.
for parts and service availaibity locally. Had been leaning toward N.H., nearest dealer,100 miles = $ lost waiting for parts and service.Personally I a have friend who bought 12 acres of wooded sidehill property, and bought a brand new Kubota. He's paying for property and tools at the same time. I really would look at an older tractor and implements if your'e looking at maintaining a smallish property. It might take more of your time to clear it, but you'll never forget the time it took to clear it, specially with the kids.Dan'l
