I have been pricing 4310's at dealers and have done quite a bit of research on the internet and this GREAT web site.

After looking at all the variables, I made the following offer to my local dealer:

4310, 4wd, ROPS,E-hydro,cruise & speed match, mid-pto, R4 loaded tires, dual & third SCV, 430 loader, telescoping draft links, forward lights

List: $24,362
16% Discount (3,898)
JD Incentive (525)
Implement Incentive (200)
Price $19,739
Tax $1,184

Total $20,923

This dealer is my local one (15 miles) and had originally offered me an 8% discount. I got a 16% discount offer from another dealer (60 miles) and also understood that that the 24 mo 0% financing was available at no additional cost.

So, I took his figures and used them as the basis for my proposal. My local dealer reviewed them and came back with the following counter: 12% discount and 0% financing for a total of $21,957; or $21,517 cash.

Now, I know there is not much difference between the two prices, but the grand would easily buy a back blade and a few other goodies.

Any thoughts on this? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've have to look at it in 2 ways regarding buying local (preferred), (1) Do I trust my local dealer to be there for me after the sale ? (2) How bad do I want this machine ? If the answers are (1) Yes (2) Really Bad, then I'd see if I could get him to add in say, the Powergard warranty - probably does'nt cost him a whole lot - but could be worth a arm and leg to you. If he goes for it, great - if he does'nt it would be a deal-breaker for me. Sorry, but I'm just that stubborn. Good Luck with your wheeling/dealing !

I would decide who is the best dealer. I dont have any really good dealers close to me so I had to go about 60 miles to find a dealer.

All things being equal I would save the $ and get a box scraper with Top n Tilt.

Best of luck and when the new addition arrives make sure you post pictures of it and your first big job.

Mark 4510 has a good point....the dealer is a big factor in your satisfaction on a new machine. Do you have any feedback from friends, neighbors, work associates, etc, on the local dealer?

IMO, you would get a bigger discount from the local dealer if you made your purchase offer during a slower time of the year, the price he is offering is about midway between full sticker and dealer cost if you include his overhead and the costs involved with setup and delivery of the new tractor.

Ask for a few more perks, such as the extended warranty, or ask him to include the 50 and 100 hour servicing with free pickup and delivery inclusive. He knows you are shopping around and would likely include some extras rather than lose the sale. You are doing it right, getting information beforehand and then go out price comparing. Good luck !!

Just curious, how do you find the dealer cost?

I have also wondered if a dealer would be more motivated to discount in the late summer or fall. Ideas?

I am in the process of getting apple to apple revised quotes from three dealers. At that point, I will have to reconsider where I am going to go. I will give some deference to my local dealer because of proximity, but he has a reputation for being a bit tight with the dollar. Nonetheless, they have good service.
