4310 vs 4410 Hydro vs 12/12

"Best Value" is an individual determination and sure isn't based solely on cost. What works for one can work for most, not all. As for dealers pushing one model over another, I sure did not experience that in any dealings with JD, NH or Kubota. Each dealer was helpful and didn't mind explaining the differences between their machines, but never tried to "push" me to a particular model. I decided on what was the best value for my needs and made my own decision. The only second guessing of my decision was my own. I think for the resale value of the tractor it wouldn't be argued by many dealers that a hydro is a much easier and quicker sale-not necessarily a better tractor, it just appeals to more users.

Hydros in compacts sell for the dealer I work for and gears sit forever sometimes years before they are sold. We are in a rural area too.

Nick, you know my local dealers have pretty much a similar situation. Most sell HST over the others. When first introduced to HST, I thought, is this just one of those things for folks new to tractors tailored to address their needs. It wasn't long before I was hooked on HST and the many advantages it offered me that my old International gear did not. Since my place is hilly, it has been quite beneficial. Thats not to say that a manual, shuttle or Kubotas GST is inferior or "less" then HST. There are times a non HST would be beneficial for me. My conclusion would be that any transmision would actually perform what I need and each would have specific bonuses. When shopping for a smaller tractor to replace my Kubota L48 (an HST), I looked at the JD 4310 and 4410. I just liked the 4410 purely from the larger engine, other then that, it might not even have made a dfference. Knowing that HST needs a bit more umph to make things go, I was opting for the 4410. I wonder if a blind fold test would distinguise any differneces between the 2.
