Okay, I'm going crazy.
Just completed attaching a 59" JD snow blower to my JD 4310 e-hydro. Start everything up and wella the blower rotates the opposite direction - yes the 2nd stage rotates but does so ccw when looking at it from the front. The mid pto shaft rotates ccw when viewed from the front as well. Anyone have the full picture of what may be going on here - I sure don't.
Thanks

Jimm -

Are you sure that ccw is the wrong direction? I have the same setup as you, but I don't really know which way mine rotates. I'd be happy to go out and look at it and check for you, if it wasn't all cold and dark outside right now. I'll do it tomorrow in the daylight if you haven't got a better answer from someone else by then.

I'd sure appreciate it. I plowed the drive yesterday with the blower not working - just engaged it occasionally to clear it out. I'm beginning the think it has to do with the gear drive on the blower. If it is a gear to gear design then the ccw pto would create a cw rotation at the blower - and that would be correct. However I think this gear box may be chain linked inside, and that would cause the blower to have the same rotation as the pto, namely ccw. These directions are all as you would view them from the front of the tractor looking back at the operators seat.
The darn thing plows pretty good!

Jimm-

I checked mine this morning and the 2nd stage impeller is rotating clockwise as viewed from the front, just like you thought yours was supposed to. I have a 4310 ehydro with a 59" blower. I'm sorry to say I don't have a clue as to why yours could be rotating CCW. Very strange. Which way does your auger rotate? Mine rotates clockwise as viewed from the right side of the blower... that is, it is moving downward on its front edge and upward at the back.

Tom,
Thanks - guess mine is rotating in reverse, now I just need to figure where the culprit is! Did you happen to notice what direstion the mid-pto shaft was rotating? Mine rotates ccw looking from the grille back - does yours?
If it does then I will know my problem is at the blower.
Thanks for your help - much appreciated

It may be that you have the wrong gearbox on the snowblower. There is a tech bulletin about it with deere:

( Solution Number: 66543

Solution Summary: 59 snow blower auger turns backwards

Publication Date: Dec 28 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Paper copies of solutions may not be the most current solutions**

Complaint or Symptom:
The auger turns in reverse pushing the materials away from the impeller.

Problem or Situation:
The wrong gearbox was installed during the assembly process.

Solution:
Order and install an AM134163 gearbox via service parts.

Additional Information:
Refer to TM1763 for the R/R instructions for this gearbox.
)

contact your dealer and have them bring out the proper gearbox and switch it out. I can't tell you how many machines are affected, but normally they are pretty good about catching these before delivery.

Did your dealer install the blower on your machine as part of the initial setup?

Yes, my mid-pto shaft also rotates ccw looking from the grill back. It sounds like the blower gearbox is wrong like Dutch445 suggested. Pretty frustating, I'll bet.

Thanks to all.
Now the update. The blower appears to have a series 50 gear box instead of the 70/55 gearbox. The only difference between these is a third gear which when installed with a smaller drive gear causes a "same direction" output. According to the exploded parts view of each gearbox the larger drive may be installed while eliminating the third gear resulting in a two gear dive and consequently a "opposite direction" between input and output. Total change over cost is about $400.
Thanks again to all

Are we to assume you bought this blower separate from your tractor? It sounds like you are heading to change this gearbox yourself, or the parts inside.

JD front mowers also use the opposite gearbox from what would go on your 4310, those PTO's turn in the opposite direction.
