4310 Won\'t Start

We used the tractor this am and it ran fine. Shut it off for about a half hour then tried to crank it back up. Nothing, absolutely nothing happened. Added gas as couldn't tell if it was empty and the battery light came on. Well, it has been seven hours since this incidence and still the tractor won't start. We also tried charging the battery. It is a 2004 model at the end of it's warranty period. Any thoughts to get it running before I lose the whole weekend. Otherwise, I will have to call the dealer on Monday.

Check the lights. If they are bright as usual, then at least you have some level of battery. If they are dim, then the battery may be some or all of the problem. Check that the battery connectors are fastened firmly to the posts. Also follow the wires to the tractor and make sure they aren't loose.

When you turn the keyswitch to the first position, do you hear the click of the fuel solenoid? Does the HST indicator lamp on the fender light up once when you turn the key on?

Check that the keyswitch connector is on tight and the individual wires aren't pulled loose.

Check the fuses in the fuse panel and push in the relays to make sure they are seated. Tap them lightly to make sure they aren't stuck.

These are a few of the simpler things to check.

You said you added fuel. Does the engine crank? Is the ring floating in the bottom of the fuel filter housing meaning water in the fuel?
I have the service manual here but the list of possibilities takes up an entire page, so I'm trying to narrow it down.
