4320 Intake Air Heater Working?

I don't know what they cost, nor how hard they are to install, but you could invest in a engine heater and see if it starts as normal then. that would determine if it's a heating issue. Just a thought.

Engine heater isn't a bad idea. However, I believe the tractor should have started if the air heater was working so would like to confirm it's operation. Tractor is under warranty but want to avoid trailering it a long distance to find nothing is wrong. I had a 2007 4320 and never had an issue with cold starting.

Are you plugging in the block heater? and it still wont start?

Almost sounds like fuel might be gelled up?

No block heater installed. I've used Power Service fuel additive for 30 years and never had an issue with gelling but I suppose there is always a first time. Think I'll check the voltage at the heater connection and if that is ok then check the resistance. Don't really know what the resistance should be but if it is infinite or very high resistance, I know the element is probably defective.

Resistance is 0.3 to 0.5 ohms. Attachment is from 4x10 tractor manual, but yours is the same. If it is working you should be able to feel heat on the heater case.

JD755, great info -- right on. Many thanks for posting info.

This photo does not look like my 4320 which has the JD Power Tech 4024T diesel engine. However, I'm quite certain the intake air heater is working. With a digital vom on the battery terminals and no load on the battery, the meter read 12.75 volts. With the key pushed in the relay slammed and the vom dropped to 11.8 volts. Tried this several times and the meter always dropped about 1 volt under load so I believe the heater is working, at least somewhat working.
Some suggested the possibility of fuel gelling so I doubled up on the Power Service additive and filled the tank with fuel. Temperature here this afternoon was 36 deg F so the tractor started fairly easy and I let it run for 10 minutes.
Hope all is well -- guess time will tell. Thanks to all for your help.

I just checked JD Parts and like kjung17 said it shows the 4320 does not have a preheater but instead has glow plugs. Probably why yours does not look like the picture. Are you familiar with glow plugs such that you know how to look for them? One or more of those may not be working.

Appears my 4320 Operator Manual does not match the tractor. Looking at 4320 documentation available, there are 4 different Operator Manuals depending on s/n range. So there may have been a change in glow plugs vs intake air heater but JD Parts should show the differences depending on s/n. I had a 2007 JD 4320 and I know there are differences.

Having had other older diesel tractors which had glow plugs, I do know what to look for. Guess I'm going to have to remove the FEL and have a closer look. :confused2:

There have been threads here for other JD models regarding the operator manual referring to glow plugs or air heater and not matching what the tractor has. Some of that has related to a s/n break between the two and the manual not being updated. In one case the manual was only partially updated, so it used both terms interchangeably. JD Parts shows three versions of your engine, but all three only show glow plugs. Curious to see what you find on yours.

Mine is a 2010 4320 and when I turn the key and push in, on the lower left lighted dash,
an orange "infinity-like" symbol lights (for the air warmer I assume), and an orange glow plug symbol lights on the the right side of the dash.

My dash panel operates the same as yours. I was concerned about whether the intake air heater (or glow plugs) were actually working. Having to plow a few inches of snow each day this past week here in the mountains of central PA, it only started hard that one day.
