4320 starting problems

I mean when it's cold
(from your first post):
I've had batteries then just didn't provide enough cold cranking amps when the ambient temperature was in the low 30's. The engine would turn, but just not fast enough to get it started.
The same batteries would provide enough amperage when the temperature rose.
To determine this, I took the battery in for testing...but I believe you did that?
Remember, energy in a battery is provided by a chemical reaction...cold temperatures normally reduce chemical reactions.

Did you discover the glow plug activation procedure by accident or by "reading the operators manual"??

My 2010 4320 Operators Manual states the following for cold weather starting. Has never failed starting yet and still has original battery.
9. For cold weather starting, use the intake air heater system. Activate the intake air heater system by pushing in the ignition key switch with the key, and holding it there for the required time:
10 - 15 seconds for temperatures as low as -18ｰC (0ｰF).
15 - 30 seconds for temperatures below -18ｰC (0ｰF).

I had the very same problem with my 06, 4320. I called the dealer about not starting, they didn't know.I found it in my manual, took the manual to the dealer to show them. HUH, they siad, not one person knew this. Starts every time until now. Really cold around minus 10. Had a new filter, fuel was not cut, filled filter with half diesel and half 911. Starts and runs for a short while, does it over and over again. Any Suggestions

Dave, shouldn't the 911 be put into your fuel tank? If you are having gelling problem I think you have to treat the whole fuel system.

Sounds like fuel in your tank is not being treated sufficiently with additive. Thus, paraffin is collecting in fuel filter blocking fuel from going thru the filter. Putting 911 in filter only temporarily allows fuel to flow. Need to sufficiently treat fuel in tank and thoroughly mix. That's what it seems like to me.

Hello I just went trough this yesterday
Anyway on my 4320 (Cab) the fuel filter was fine but I changed it anyway as I too thought it was the problem..
I prior to the problems, I added an excess of power service to the tank ( probably 6++ oz to 6-7 gallons of red fuel). So the day it would not start and stay running, I new I had fuel problems but it was too cold, so I waited until yesterday (31 deg.) to dig into it. Someplace in the tank or line from the tank to the lift pump it was obstructed.. You can take the fuel line to the filter and turn over the engine and see if your getting fuel, I wasn't. I tried to pressurize the line but later found that there is a check valve on the cab model so that didn't work. So I added about 16 oz of PS 911 to the tank. This after a few hours took care of the problem. So treat the tank as well as the filter.
I'm thinking that my problem may be that I have water in the bottom of my tank. I'm going to drain it some when it warms up again and see if I get any thing out of it. It didn't/doesn't make sense to me that the PS didn't prevent the problems. But if I have water, it may not be able to deal with that, and the 911 might?? I have drained the fuel filter 3 or so times ( yesterday too) and I NEVER get any water out of it... but it may pool in the bottom of the tank??
