2 of the four have gone through the deer. I take the traditional kill zone shot ( heart/lungs). I was taught that it is all about energy transfer. I would perfer the bullet use all it's energy on the target and not just punch through. I took a look at some of the sample shots with home defence rounds and the high scoring rounds didn't exit the target. Instead it used the energy to destroy everything inside. When I am butchering my deer I do loose some meat because the shock of the round turns the target area into jelly. It does lots of damage. I dislike having to look for deer so the quicker they fall the easier it is for me and the tractor to bring them out.

Thought that you might like to see the results of a 454 Casull, 300 gr JSP. This round has accouted for two Bullwinkles, Caribou, Elk, Antelope, Mule deer and more. On the Bullwinkle two rounds went completely through - each of which punched through a shoulder blade - did not recover bullets - only round that I have recovered went length ways on a moose and was under the skin in the off shoulder.

Fishman - yep - Freedom Arms - very very pricey - but absolutely the best - will probably get another one in .475 cal -not sure why - as the 454 has literaly punched through every thing - the penetrtion of the 454 is beyond description - I have been involved in many many critters meeting their maker by both bow and bullet - the 454 without a doubt will put a hole in anything you want - if you can handle the backside of the boom!
