John Deere Implements/Loader

460 Loader For 4500, 4600 and 4700 Tractors 2041W $3,949.00

MX5 Lift-Type Rotary Cutter -540 RPM PTO 2131W $1,838.00

513 Economy Integral Rotary Cutter 2061W $884.00

The JD X13 series economy rotary cutter are very light duty, look @ BushHog or KingKutter for a much better value for your dollar.

The JD MX series is very good, except pricey...

If you get up in the $1500-1900. range then consider the Woods Brushbull series and BushHog 280 series... these should be the last cutters you'll ever buy in your lifetime... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Okay thanks for info on pricing - I forgot to log off my home pc- so had to improvise

I was at dealer yard, trying to decide on which cutter to get,
and looking at the size of the MX6, big, made me reconsider which model tractor to get !! ahhh I was so close. The MX5 looks like a more manangeble size cutter for my property, some tighter areas and yard grass that I want to cut, so do you think i want to pull a MX5 with 4500 - industrial tires ?
Won't my tracks be outside of cutter width ? I guess I also want to be close to things that I cut, does this make sense?
I think I am getting fair shake on 4500, but just not sure if I need this much tractor.
Also any opinion on why you don't see a whole lot of Q & A about 4500's on this and other boards. ???hmmm

I agree with JM III: JD cutters are way overpriced for the value they give. Go Woods Brushbull.

As to width of cutters, I have seen two arguments here. I think most people want to be able to cover their tracks. However, I have seen some argue they like a cutter slightly narrower so they can be sure if they drive the tractor between trees, they can be sure the cutter will fit also. (Otherwise, CLONK, and you better have your seatbelt on.)

I think there is not a lot of discussion about the 4500 because most people buy hydro.

Shanty,
I think the reason you don't see them is because they are right in between the 4600 and 4400. If a guy needs a 4500 I think they usually go to the 4600 or 4700 or if that's too much tractor they drop down to the 4400. Now that's just what I think. Would be curious to know the sales numbers. Is Superman, or I mean John Miller, able to answer this.

okay - I checked on Woods mower $975 for 6 footer, sound good? The dealer quote on the JD MX6 was about 1550.

I can testify to the John Deere 513 prices and quality,My next cutter or brush hog will be a Woods or some other brand. MY guess on why you do not hear that much about the 4500 is,could it be because they are not available in hydrostat?

I went by and looked at Woods mower. That is one I will go with.
Now if I can just decide on tractor. I do like the power reverser. Don't really need it, I guess, but once you have used something like that, you get hooked. Is there a lot of savings between the option - hydro v. pwr revers. ?
Doesn't seem to be much price diff in the base price between the 4400 and 4500 4wd.

Thanks John. Buy some art so I can afford this green tractor!!
That is my 8 yr old daughter - graphite pencil drawing.
And of course the "buff" male nudes are me!! lol
People joke that we are like the GreenAcres couple. I want to live at my farm in the country and she wants to be in NYC - the art scene!! Not for me.
