I have a 4410 eHydro with 390 hours. Last week the main spline coming out of the differental /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif broke a tooth and it got down between the large gear and the axle housing. The housing broke and I lost all of the hydraulic fluid. The parts are $1000. I don't have a cost on labor yet. Has anyone else had a rear gear go out? Of course it is off of warranty. Should John Deere cover something as rare as this even if it is off of warranty?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem on a 4400 hydro..model year 2001 with about 500 hours. Not the exact problem you describe but involved a near rebuild of the transmission/hydraulics (new gears, pumps, loader cylinders etc). Cause was a factory defect in the spider gears (I think that it what they called it...I don't have the paperwork handy) that sent metal chips everywhere inside. The dealer said this was very, very rare but had heard of it before. Total cost (parts and labor) was about $4300. Dealer called John Deere regional rep and all agreed that it was a manufacturung flaw and was not caused by any abuse. I ended up paying less than $1000 for the repair. John Deere picked up the rest. Of course, I'd have prefered to not pay anything but considering it was over 2 years out warranty I thought that was fair.

This is one of those things that I always hate to see happen. It is always costly. If it were a known problem or a blatant defect, there would be a chance that Deere would cover it.

Not sure there is enough info revealed to give you any suggestion as to "what to do".
What is up with the rear hose and rear housing?

I had the rear axils replaced last year only to have about 5 hr on new ones and the alluminum cast axils broke agian . The local dealership feels that the rear housing unit needs replaced also . Aand a subframe added.which will be about $6000 . My .? Is will that fix the problem? I think that the alluminum axils should be cast iron especially with a backhoe on it!

"The dealer suggests a subframe"
.. does that mean the hoe is now on the 3 ph?
Which backhoe is it?

The back hoe is48 .i took the back hoe off.. Tractors at a dealership. If I put a subframe will it be good to go or will I have issues because of the alluminum cast housing,!

I'll try that question again... Was the backhoe mounted on the 3 ph arms when the axle housings broke?
