I need help on deciding between 2 tractors. Both are John Deere and both from dealers. A 4410 with 1100 hours and Hydro transmission for $12,500 being sold by a Kubota dealer 2 hours from me or a 3320 with 500 hours for $14,500 sold by a JD dealer in my town with the HydroE Transmission. The 3320 was their rental unit and is 2 to 4 years old and I don稚 know the age of the other one but I think it would have to be around 2001 or so. Both have FELs.

I don't know anything about the 4410. Does it have more hp than the 3320? Do you need more hp? I would spend the extra 2k for the fewer hour machine. JC

The 4410 has 35 HP/28+ at PTO, the 3320 has 32.5/25 PTO, I would probably go for the 3320 as it is newer and has almost as much horse as the 4410. And it has less hours.

I would certainly go with the 3320. Newer model, fewer hours and should be worth more on later resale.

Also bear in mind the 3320 has about the same torque as the 4410 tractor. When JD came out with the new 3000 series machines, minor adjustments upped the torque slightly on each model. If I recall correctly, the 3320 has about 62 lb/ft torque v. the 4410 rated at 64 (when new). The previous 4310, equivalent in HP to the 3320, had just over 57 lb.ft--which is more equivalent to the 3120 of today. Not much difference, but it can be felt. I have always guided people familiar with both models that the 3320 is the new equivalent to the 4410, rather than the 4310. Combine this with the multiple upgrades on the machine v. the older 4000 series (I have owned both) and it makes sense to pay a bit more for the 3320.

I am a bit surprised all of you are suggesting that I go with the lower power model. Granted it is newer, has less hours, is closer, but cost $2,000 more and was a rental machine so may not have gotten the care of one that was owned by the operator. The difference of 2 Hp must not be enough to feel. As for the resale if I like the tractor I will likely have it for 10 to 20 years so resale is not a concern and I don稚 think I will be putting a lot of hours on it.

Should I not be concerned about buying a rental unit?

Jcmseven or anyone else, can you tell me what some of the multiple upgrades you mentioned are?

I have noticed that all of you put a value on the age of the machine. I have never owned a tractor before but I thought that if taken care of they would last forever so why is the age so important?

Most of the upgrades I mention are ergonomic in nature. The ehydro on the newer machines works much better than the mid frame 4000's they replace. They now have a one-piece hood, which makes servicing easier. The tilt wheel is more stable and durable and upgrades were made to smooth the power steering. The fuel tank is larger on the newer machines; the headlights are brighter and more helpful for side view. While these are not earth-shattering things, each of them makes operating the tractor easier and more enjoyable. Having had both generations, the newer ones are an improvement. As for the rental background of the machine, you have a point there. It seems though if the machine was adequately serviced and maintained, this would not be too big a deal. As for the power--as mentioned--the 4410 is not really more powerful than the 3320 in what matters--torque. The two HP is insignificant, especially with the hydro tweaks that were made.

It痴 interesting that you mention the tilt wheel. I now remember the dealer of the 4410 telling me that they were waiting on a part for the tilt wheel that was on back order.

I was around 60 to 70% sure that I was going to go with the 4410 before this post but after the input from everyone here I am leaning the other way now. If I don稚 make a decision soon someone will make it for me by buying one of them so I will try to decide by tomorrow.

BTW, is the undercarriage protection any better on the3320? I saw one post that someone had some problems with snagging wires under their 4410.

Thanks to all.

I would also look at who is selling you the tractors, you have a Kubota dealer selling you a Deere with 1100 hours and a Deere Dealer selling you a former rental unit with only 500 hours. I would lean towards the newer tractor based on the hope/expectation the Deere Dealer would be more familiar with the tractor and its quirks in regards to repairs.

Can you find out the exact years for botjh. Also that 500 hours is really not that much for a tractor, even a former rentalunit. If the 4410 has 1100 gentle hours that could be good also. However at a delta of less than $3k, i still would go for the 3320. Did you try to negotiate either dealer down in price, yet?

I wrote the check for the 3320 yesterday, OUCH!!!! I figured that they might both come off their price a bit so that would not be a deciding factor unless one of them didn't. I had a written quote for the 3320 and when I looked at it I realized that it was $14,900 which made the difference between the two tractors $2,500. They came off their price 400 but I bought a used (Gill - owned by Woods) box blade that they told me goes for 800 new so I ended up back at 14,900.

I would rather do business with this dealer so I am happy with the way things worked out.

Right now I am still in sticker shock but I want to thank everyone that helped me with this decision.
