A picture is worth a thousand words. (Just made that up - pretty slick, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I wonder how many rocks rolling down onto the hydraulic fitting it took before someone came up with that solution. Hrm. Wonder why they painted 'em green? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for posting the photo!

Thanks for the picture. My 448 came with this on one side (right) and it does provide a valuable step. It does protect the connection there. I thought it may be some other type of guard. I 'tapped' the hydraulic hose connection at the top of the cylinder at about 10 hours of use and it sprayed fluid everywhere. I had a new hose made to replace it and was wondering if it was some type guard for that area.

Thanks Shooter

This photo is not consistent with the part number mentioned above. I would love to buy another one of these for my 447 Backhoe but have not been unable to find the part number. My dealer is still looking. The part number shown above is for a cover over the stabilizer cylinder rod, not the step that is shown in the photo.

I think I got that part number from the JD configurator, but there was no photo, and I couldn't find any drawing at JDParts either.

Hrm. Now I'm wondering which type of stabilizer protector will be installed on my BH, and I won't be getting my 448 until the end of next week to find out.

But I'll ask my dealer, who seemed to be aware of the smaller 'step' version, if he can supply the part numbers for each type.

Hey there, I had my dealer order the part number listed previously and when the parts came in we were both suprised. The parts that came in were black and they do attach to the ends of the cylinder rods and extend up the length of the shaft to cover the fitting on the end of the cylinder. I'll take pictures of the parts this afternoon and send them to BloomingtonMike for resizing, then I'll post them for all of you. I will also post some new pic's of my 3320 with the 448 hoe on it being delivered and in use. I just got mine back from the dealer on friday the 10th of feb. with all of my accessories finally installed. I only had the hoe on the tractor for one day and removed it to put the back blade back on (suppost to snow for the next few days). Well anyways the hoe came with one of the green step type protectors on it and the dealer is going to order one more of them, I plan on installing the long black protectors on the cylinders and then fabricating the green step type protectors onto them, that way I can have the protection and the steps. I'll keep ya posted on the progress. Have a great week!

Well here is a picture of the stabilizers that the part number listed in the previous post refers to. I had the dealer special order the green ones that were in the picture,,,,boy were we suprised when the parts came in. Just thought that you would all like to see what they look like. They cost $130 list price. The dealership gave them to me for dealer cost because of the mix up. Have a great week! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Larry

My 448 came with the long, black stabilizer protectors. I have attached a photo...

They are too smooth to use as a step, especially with snowy boots, but they would be plenty strong enough. I think I might cover the top with heavy duty anti-slip rubber tread, although I have no trouble getting up onto the machine without stepping on the stabilizer.
