Haven't got my tractor yet, but dreaming up uses for it around here.

have an old loaded up with junk type stuff tractor trailer box without the wheels, sitting on the ground. You see them for sale sometimes as storage type areas.

Anyway, I have serious doubts that it is possible to relocate with a tractor, but just figured I'd ask.

I'm guessing that a 44 horse tractor will pull my junk vehicles around correct?

May need to lift either the front end or rear end (no tires) and drag. Is this doable?

Really? For the container too?
Thought the vehicles might be possible but really didn't think the tractor trailer box.

So, does 44 hp mean 44 HORSES..... really? I mean I can visualize 44 horses pulling that thing no problem.

Yes the tractor should drag cars around without wheels. But I doubt you'd even budge a full sized tractor trailer container without wheels.
A 44 hp tractor means the engine makes 44 hp, some tractors rate in pto hp. But no it definately does not mean you can pull the same ammount of weight as 44 real horses:eek:

That's what I figured.
Well how about this? Could I just lift up the tractor trailer container with my pallet forks..... Har har.

Be freakin careful with that tractor trailer. I worked on a project where we were going to cut the top out of one of those Conex boxes. At some point we determined we could just flip it over and burn the plywood floor out a lot easier than burn the steel top out. We hooked a half ton pickup truck with 6 guys in the back and a 1 ton dualy service truck with a 2000 pound welding machine in the back and were not able to so much as budge it. All we were trying to do was flip it over so we had chained it up high on two corners. The dually truck actually broke one of those 2 inch wide (20000ldb rated) tow straps.

Good thing it was the dually without anyone in the back because that would have likely maimed the 6 guys in the back of the pickup.

Moral of the story those things are heavier than they look. Ours was empty. I would hate to think you took a 2 inch clevis hook to the back of the head and never got to post again.

You'll need a bulldozer or some sort of tracked vehicle to pull that thing.

Ours was the fullsize 55 foot model. If you have one of the baby 20 foot ones I would still be careful. If that chain or strap breaks youre done.

You are talking of about 13,000 lbs of dead weight. On wheels with a hydro I'd say yes but not with out.

Yes, I believe you can move that trailer if you have fore and aft rails under the floor, and you put some round logs under it. Another way I have seen people move large containers, is by placing two steel channel, separated by say 6 ft, flat side down, next put a greased 4 x 4 in the channel, and another steel channel on top of the wood, trailer goes on top, and what I saw, slid fairly easy.

I was also thinking of winching my trailer around the yard, using double pulleys, using different trees with a sling around them as a guide post. Similar to skidding logs.

Mrllulabye-
Point taken!
Sometimes we forget the obvious potential for problems (broken chains etc!) Thanks for the heads up.

Your little experiment kind of reminds me of the masons excuse for being late to work song floating around in one of the forums here...

Sounded like a good idea at the time kind of thing.

art-
no wheels so, guess it's on to....

JJ-
No trees to pull it to the location I need it.
Don't think there is anyway to the angles, round logs etc under it....

Unless my lift of FEL, would lift up one end at a time enough to get something under it?

What does everyone think?
