Do you not have jacks you can put under and raise up enough to put some logs under?

My 18,000 lbs excavator will drag over 8,000 lbs thru the dirt, but would not budge a box trailer with a just a bit of hay in it.

I just moved a stump with a 10 foot section of the tree on it that fell on a neighbor's driveway..

I could not lift it with my tractor, but I was able to lever it.

Dugg a little trench under the nose, put some small logs under it and then built that into a lever. used the loader to push down on the lever( a small steel beam).. Got it up high enough to put several large (roller logs under it).

then drug it about 100 feet.

I suspect it was about 1200-1500 lbs..

Now as far as for the trailer...

If you can get your hands on some 3-4 in galvanized pipes at least 1 or 2 foot longer then the trailer is wide, these could be a good way to drag it..
It would likely take at least 8 to 10....

so the process would look like this:
Lever lift the box, put some under the front. and some in front of the trailer.
Pull it forward, and have at least 2 people to move the pipes as you slowly pull it... When the pipes get to the back of the trailer, have them moved back up front....

It has been at least 20 years since I saw this done, and it was done for a ~15 by 20 wood building loaded with tools... So weight should be about the same... I seem to recall this was done with an old Ford tractor- no idea the model or HP.. But it was not much bigger than my L3400 if I remember correctly.....

And it was on flat level ground. grass was cut and all was dry...

We also used to do this in shop class in high school with empty storage buildings (8x10 and 8x16) and we used 4 in PVC for them.. Built them in the shop, and rolled them outside after building them.

I hope this helps...

So, does 44 hp mean 44 HORSES..... really? I mean I can visualize 44 horses pulling that thing no problem.

A Belgian horse will do about 18 hp, but not for more than minutes because it gets tired.
An average riding horse does 12 to 15 hp. A Shetland pony does about 8 hp.

1 hp is the power to lift 75 kg over 1 meter height in 1 second. That excludes the extra power for the acceleration of the inertia: So when a motor powers a winch to bring a 75kg load to a speed of 1 meter per second, you need to hand crank the winch to maintain that speed, to be putting out 1 hp. 1 meter per second is 1x60 seconds x60 minutes, is 3600 meter per hour, or 3.6 km/h

The power wont be a problem, the problem is to generate enough traction at a slow speed, to trade speed for force.

Hey everyone.
It all makes sense to me (except for the horsepower explanation.... I did get some of it.... MUCH less than 44 horses to get the power of my tractor- wow), and sounds doable.

I think I want to REAL sure where the final resting place for this trailer is gonna be however. Wouldn't want to do that twice sounds like.

your tractor is about 3 horses... but horses wont spin their wheels so they probably have more lugging power.

My uncle lived on a swampy area. When they had their 22hp Lanz Bulldog hotbulb tractor stuck near a ditch (the ditch caved in, even though they stayed 3 foot clear of it) neighbours Ferguson couldnt move it at all because it had no grip in that soil.
Then another neighbour tried his 3 Belgian horses. The horses only leaned forward into the leather, then the tractor already moved before the horses actually moved their feet...

Cant you just borrow some temporary wheels, or get some worn out ones to put under that trailer ? Even if you had wheels on just one axle, it would make a great deal of difference.

A general explanation of horse power as I know it is work done by a farm horse in one day. If you had a 20HP tractor, it would do the same work of 20 horses in one day. I doubt that this still holds true today though.

That could very well be in the right direction, as a horse has to take rest after every furrow you plough. It can deliver high forces (like pulling the Lanz tractor free) but only for short times because they need a breath from time to time. Tractors can deliver that power all day long.

I guess they calculate with a 24hr working day, when the horse sleeps at least 12 of those hours...

Horsepower from a horse
R. D. Stevenson and R. J. Wassersug published an article in Nature 364, 195-195 (15 July 1993) calculating the upper limit to an animal's power output. The peak power over a few seconds has been measured to be as high as 14.9 hp. However, for longer periods, an average horse produces less than one horsepower.

It is all relative, to what. You have to watch out for peak power, and avg power, and induced power.
