Could someone help me decide on what kind of tractor would be a good buy for a tractor of this size. I am looking currently at a Yanmar LX450, which I have heard good reviews about, but am still confused.......some say LS is just as good, I don't know.
Then others say get a Kioti, it will run circles around the Yanmar. I know that the Yanmar is suppose to have better matched components ( Performanc Link Technology) which is suppose to make it perform better than comparable tractors for the money....anyone that ones to put some info. on this please do so, I need help. Thanks......Leland B.

Kioti makes a great tractor, have a look at the DK40 or 45 model. You may be pleasantly surprised at what a nice machine it is. I have the CK35 HST which is smaller and lighter than the DK series. Sure have been happy with mine over the past 3 1/2 years. :)

I don't have any experience with the brands that you mention. One thing that I would be considering is a dealership instead of just the brand. What dealers are around you? Do you have experience with them or know someone who does? When things go wrong good support from a dealer can make a big problem into an inconvenience.

Ok now forget all that and just go buy a New Holland and you will be happy! :)

One thing about Yanmar, the used to build(under 50 hp.) for JD,and I still think the supply some engines.

There are so many choices. You really should research all of them. Kioti is good. Bobcat is the same thing basically in white. Kioti also has the value priced DS series that are basic tractors for less than their DKs. But everyone loves the DK40/45 with it's great loader specs. I hear LS is a good value. Mahindras are good. So are NH, MF, JD, bota. There's a tremendous number to choose from.

I had a Yanmar Lx450 and loved it, the loader was a real beast. Talk to anyone who has actually run one, and I figure you'll hear the same thing, it's a real tight machine. Only reason I parted with it was because I had to go bigger and Yanmar isn't selling a bigger model in the US yet, to my knowledge.

Most everything has been said, but I can not emphasize enough, set on as many tractors as you can before you spend the money. Most all spec out close to the same, but they are not laid out the same and what feels good to me may not to you. If the dealer is important to you, then shop dealers first and then pick a tractor that the best dealer has.

Just my :2cents:

In 2002 I bought a new Massey Ferguson 231s, 45 hp, 2 wheel drive. Except for maintenance I've not put a penny into it. After 1020 hours it runs like new. As it's considered a utility tractor it weighs considerably more than the compacts. As you know weight equals traction. The Perkins 3 cyl. engine starts in the coldest weather. With ag tires on the rear it's pulled some amazing loads, including a 3 bottom plow and a loaded hay wagon. Sips fuel and is very comfortable to run.
You can find some 38 hp 231's for great prices as well as 231s models.

Agree completely. I've had a Kioti Dk40se hst for five years and it has been a great machine. Great bang for the buck.

As MtnViewRanch notes the dealer is very important too. I love my tractor but would choose a Mahindra or LS without hesitation if the dealership comparison was against he Kioti/Bobcat.

Yanmar still supplies many of the engines for JD's lineup of lawn tractors, sub-compact and compact tractors. 22hp to 44hp in a diesel engine.

I've owned 2 JD tractors with Yanmar engines and would buy another in a blink! Currently, own a JD110 with the same engine as the Yanmar LX450. Rock solid.

hi guys, no one has even suggested the Kubota L4400 ....just wondering why?

Excellent reliable tractor but doesn't spec well compared to the others. Loader capacity, features, etc. The L4400 is great bang for the buck compared with sibling L4240 or equivalent JD but not when compared to equivalent HP Kioti/Bobcat or Mahindra, LS etc. Still, it has much wider dealer support so should be considered on that advantage alone.

Agree with most posts - I have an LS4041ez and it has been more than fine for me (although I am not a commercial operator running the crap out of it). It seems to fit me fine (not that tall), have the bells and whistles I need, and have more than enough power for what I need done. But like said, there are so many good tractors out there now - what "feels" good is important ... along with the dealer.

After owning two JD 770's made by Yanmar, I'd buy a Yanmar tractor in an instant!!! The best tractors I've ever used. With the direct injection engine, they start in cold weather even without using the heaters down to 0F.

Kubota L45 TLB lots of power and has done everything I have ask of it.

I agree, set on all them and see were the controls are,if your getting one with loader check out were the joystick is.A great dealer goes along way in whatever you purchase...
Kubota L4740 or MX4700

I just bought a Yanmar LX490 and LOVE it. I can't believe how much power this thing has, and how well built it is! I have 2 other compacts, a 24 and 32 HP, and this thing is a beast compared to them. I just added the front aux valve and a grapple, and currently installing dual rear remotes. It is essentially the same tractor as the 450, just a different engine. Fantastic build quality. The only flaw I've noted to date is theres no step on the right side.....and with the ground clearance the platform is pretty high. I've addressed this by buying another step, (only 15 bucks:thumbsup:) and looks like it will fit well with a little mod.
Good luck!

I dont think you will find a better bang for the buck than an LS tractor. More standard features that cost you extra on all others and the quality and ergonomics surpass any one that I sat on when I was shopping and I looked at everything in this order: MF, Case IH, Kubota, Kioti, New Holland, Mahindra, John Deere and finally LS. I bought the LS because of the fit and finish, ergonomics (it fit me better than any other brand) and most of all because of the much lower price. You can get 10 more HP plus more of the things you need as standard for about the same price as the lesser HP in all the others. You just have to have a dealer that you are happy with. Since LS is just starting to sell (2+ years in the states) under their own brand name and establishing a dealer network, they may not be as many as JD or Kubota. If you looked at Case IH, New Holland or Mahindra chances are that you already looked at an LS as they supply some of their models for them. Montana tractors were made by LS also prior to them closing up shop. I would stay away from the brands that dont directly manufacture their own tractors and of course the chinese made ones.
Check out the LS forum here on TBN and their website lstractorusa.com and see for yourself.

Also, the L4400 is being replaced with the L4600.
