I agree with most of the other replies. Check your trailer breaks and controller setup. I have a Prodigy by Tekonsha in my 03 Dodge and it is AWESOME. I can dial in the setting for each trailer I have on, and can adjust for loaded VS empty. I can stop my 3 horse slant (huge dressing room) on a dime with that thing... and barely jostle the horses. I highly recommend it. PM me if you want... I drove that pickup today and can get the info out of it if I need to.

We have a prodigy brake controller in a 2006 Ram 2500/Cummins 4x4, and also have a 3-horse slant, two axles, electric brakes, 4800lbs empty and I think 12,000 max loaded (though 3 horses should not come close to 7000lbs). The brakes work great and are fairly easy to adjust. I have no experience with air brakes and maybe they are 10x better, but I have never felt a problem with the electric brake setup on this trailer. I will note that the trailer dealer told us we absolutely had to get the Prodigy brake controller, any other brand was a bad idea - and he wasn't selling the brake controllers (we got it from the hitch installer, different company and different town).

Robbie, I am a certified world class gm tech. I specialize in durimax diesel and only work on medium duty trucks 4500 and up. I actully was flown to detroit in 1999 for the realese of the durimax long befor it was available to the public. If you have any questions let me know. I can tell you the ins and outs of every year of durimax. What are you pulling and how much does it weigh? if you dont pimp out your 4500/5500 they are actually cheaper than some 3500's. I have seen them in every configurations from a short wheelbase to a extended frame motorhome. drop me a line and ill fill ya in

Nice call sign there, that describes most of us doesn't it???

Thanks for the reply. I have a 04 F-350 crew cab 4x4 long bed with a powerstroke of course. My normal trailering weight is 18,000 lbs. It's a 28' triple axle goose, 21,000 gvw. I know I'm at the limit on my truck, probably a little over but is getting the job done for now. I'd like to be able to pull the trailers max gvw. The manufacturer of the trailer said I could trailer 18,000lbs. load including putting 10% on the truck via tongue weight. My tractor currently weights 13,000 lbs and I usually carry a bucket and grapple. I'm not sure the class truck it is but have seen something like 19,000-25,999lbs. ratings.

In the future the next tractor I'd buy weights 15,500 and I'd like enough truck to cover that. Anything bigger and it would be a totally different ballgame. I really like crew cabs,4x4 and a flat bed. I like electric windows and door locks, power mirrors. All the other stuff they can keep.

A dealer near me has a F-650 with a cat 300 H.P. alot of torque but to the tune of 65,000$, thats why I didn't get it to begin with. I also use my truck as a daily driver. But now that I have it a dedicated larger truck makes a little more sense.

Some used year models that were good would be helpful so I can keep my eyes out. Also maybe what year models to stay away form. I would like new for the warranty but 50k or so is new enough for me. My current truck I bought at 60k and has been a great truck. My BIL has a 2002ish duramax and it has done good for him.

Thanks for the info in advance. Robbie

Ok here goes,
1st you can get a 45/55 with all the bells and whistles you want, i recomend an air ride seat the rest is up to you.
2nd gm medium duty has a 2 year unlimited mile warranty bumper to bumper
3rd bad year any one with the 8th digit of the vin being a 2 meaning a lly engine, i say this because i have never had a engine failure due to unxplained reasons until the lly engine came out then all of a sudden i had 5 in a period of 3 months and they suck to change out. the first d-max had a vin code of 1 and that was the "injector" years which is going to be to old for your warranty needs.

so basically you want a almost new truck if not new truck, my brother works for a med/heavy dealer and was trying to get me to help sell a couple of year end models and told me he needed 41k for them they were reg. cabs with elec. everything, air ride seat, and had a flat bed on them.

the lbz motor is the new one and thats what you want, the lly's that i replaced might of had a build concern or might have had programers put on them so only let that factor your decision if you plan on programming it, also they were all flat bed car haulers that were heavy as you know what.

gm builds a great product, repairs are quick usually and parts are available. some of the ho chi min stuff i have found is really hard to get parts for and even harder to find someone who KNOWS how to work on them. The little isuzu npr's are that way and gm owns them. I have driven one of those cab over styles while pulling a load, wasnt much fun.

let me know if you have any more questions hope i have been some help, if your close to oklahoma i can have my brother spec one out for you also

Hey Robbie, I only paid $30,000 for this little guy and it pulls my tag along with grinder or if I get slow, van trailers. Point being, just because Petes are built the best and look the best you can find good deals on em. (e-bay)

Hey Joe. If you go boy you go big!!! I think that will pull your supertrak well!!! Forget the 4500/5500, I want one of those. That is a good looking truck, I don't think you'll run out of truck anytime soon. After all the posting on here I had a family member remind me of another family member that owns a peachstate dealership in Florida that I should consider also. A good deal and no sales tax would make for a great deal. Probably get a alittle to much truck for a good deal.

Again smart buy. Keep in touch. Robbie
